This ever get figured out? Been bugging me too.

I thought Haddish was pretty good and 100% did not believe their relationship, which kinda sums up my general reaction to the film: really enjoyed watching it and yet thought it was kinda half-baked.

Kinda loved this supremely bizarre film
((Stuffed is loved by old and young because this is where the puddings get sent in. Criss-cross paving and those tinkly hanging bells make ((Stuffed a very homely access to Hades. Full marks.

Saw this again on a whim yesterday afternoon and I've chalked up his going back to the same prison he committed his military crimes is just a bit of poetic license. Which is fine! I'm not a stickler for realism.

Some related googling in trying to find an answer to my original question I learned Leavenworth was downgraded to a medium-security prison from a maximum-security one in 2005, which makes me wonder if Tell would have realistically gone back there aside from what was a civilian doing being sent to a military facility to begin with.

I only thought the ending was underwhelming because I just didn't buy them as a believable couple, which seemed to be important in finding the ending moving.Toggle Spoiler

I really really loved this despite its story, the relationships were poignant and the vibe was hypnotic. Had that weird hi-fi Twin Peaks The Return feeling. For whatever reason the execution was slightly off in like every area, like its weird the music is ladled heavily over ever scene, but I don't know. Loved it!
And I feel like this year is really about, just the year of realizing stuff.

not a good movie. same gripes as a lot of others in here. been a big fan of haddish and was rooting for her but she wasnt good in this at all. dialogue was awkward. not enough bill dafoe. ending not good or believable at all. its a vibe or whatever i guess.

This was very very weird . I have no idea what my opinion of it is, other than It bothered me how inconsistent the characterization of Oscar Isaac was and the strangeness of the forced mom reunionToggle Spoiler scene . I wanted to love it , but it’s a hard film to love .

that was *crazy*

that shitty ADR in that haddish-isaac lights date scene was insane.i thought haddish was taking over narration for the first bit of it.

honestly my one crit is that the protagonist never lost a hand really right
the angle about the believability of the relationship makes me cringe somehow......i like taking this thing on its own terms

No they don’t? Ever play in Vegas? Or nice casinos even in AC(Borgata) or nice Indian casinos? There’s plenty of nice aesthetic card rooms with a lot more energy also. I’ve also played in shitty ones in a literal Marriott conference room that was put together by some mom and pop org. That’s what the movie looked like. I get it it wasn’t about glamour and glitz but seeing dumb exteriors of non existent places with CGI’d signs “Chat N Chew” with lame USA USA shit going on, Tiffany haddish some fake go between between stakers and players is a role that doesn’t exist in the real world, the hand he described to the kid in the coffee shop just being ordinary as fuck, like not even the poker scenes were in any way compelling.

And I am definitely of the mindset that grinding poker tables is boring/depressing/not in anyway glamorous but the movie didn’t even lean into that well.

Like if uncut gems was highlighting the chaos of gambling, and the non torture non Kid relationship elements of this movie was highlighting what…the banality of gambling on the road? The excitement? The what? Whatever the fuck it was it didn’t do it well.
