Why are old people obsessed with the weather

Let's talk Aguachile Alley

Postby sassafras socks » Fri May 28, 2021 10:44 am

They’re always watching the Weather Channel, standing by the window analyzing the sky, checking the thermometer, waiting for the weather report to come on the evening news.. My mom likes to inform me every morning “you’ll find it’s a bit chilly today!” or “open your windows now because we have to turn the AC on at 2pm” and my dad has to announce the changes in humidity every time he sees one of us (there are digital monitors all over the house). Why. WHY

my dad will leave me 5 minute voicemails that are just him describing the previous week's weather and telling me that he saw on the weather channel that we're not getting much rain

people talk a lot about the weather and personal relationships

talking about the weather is sort of like talking about relationships, whether people are still together or not, mundane things

you have some healthy fun with yourself by trying to make your own little forecast

give yourself a nice pat on the back if you're right

i think my dad's obsession with the weather is pretty explainable given that he's a farmer and the weather has a direct impact on what work he can get done on a given day. that being said, he's very much a "climate change is a lie" guy which is frankly odd considering how many times i've had to listen to him talk about some crazy drought.

i guess i do look at forecasts regularly because i run a lot and it's nice to know when i need to pull out my rain gear and stuff but i can't say that i think about day-to-day weather much beyond that.

Do you want it
To be outside
The cool night
The stars gravitate
Toward you
Do you want it
To be outside
The cool night
With the fog
Wraps itself
Around you
Do you want it
To be outside
The sunshine
Where the clouds
Take their places
For you
And the wind and snow
And the rain that blows
None of those
Would matter much
Without you
And as long as its talking with you,
Talk of the weather will do
Do you want it
To be outside
In the cool night
With the stars gravitate
Toward you
Do you want it
To be outside
In the sunshine
Where the song keeps
Itself inside you
And the wind and snow
And the rain that blows
None of those would matter much
Without you
Nobodys hoping
For better days
Noone knows
What to do
Youre ok
In your secret ways
Noone bothering you
Might save time
If i meet you there
But i dont care,
Id rather wait for you
And noones home
And the weathers fine
Id rather wait for you
And noones home
And the weathers fine
Id rather wait for you
Never knowingly eaten an ass.

we got a family friend who is a local TV weatherman and also has been on the "climate change isn't anthropogenic!" train since like the 1990s. some real forest for the trees shit.
