very xanax-y experience. which is welcomed. curious where it's gonna go.

jake lacy always makes me uneasy i have to say, so it's nice to have him lean into it.

Really like this though. Reminds me a little of enlightened. there was a moment or two of Beatriz at dinner that felt quasi-malickian and I thought was just like a directorial flair thing but it's absolutely here.

Even maybe a little Chuck and buck here but the environs and production disguise a lot of the discomfort in the story.

this was pretty good, though the framing device of "who's the dead body gonna be???" feels tacked on by HBO or something

I'm on board, first episode was solid.

Quinn's post-snorkeling conversation with his dad was great.

The hotel manager is my favorite character so far. "I might have fucked up and double-booked the Pineapple Room" / "ugh, what the fuck is this? can somebody clean this up?"

Connie Britton's adamantite super shield of positivity + Hillary Clinton defense was A+, I think I know several versions of this lady in real life.

so good

Also I think Jennifer Coolidge's character is going to drive me nuts in short order, but I really appreciated the perfect little grace note of Acting! that was the way she held that poor trainee's tip visibly in her hand, just out of reach, to either intentionally or subconsciously bait her through that entire exchange about her mom's misplaced ashes, which she blithely admitted might have been forgotten in like half a dozen different places.

That was just the perfect horrible tacky way of holding the tip money like an asshole and it was brilliant.

a fun little thing i noticed in the first scene was one of the girls wearing a shirt that said "bardo"
Used without qualification, "bardo" is the state of existence intermediate between two lives on earth. According to Tibetan tradition, after death and before one's next birth, when one's consciousness is not connected with a physical body, one experiences a variety of phenomena.
