Yeah that collapse after didn't look good :(
What the heck is tobizaru doing lately? this "New Pawing Technique" lol it seems like he doesn't have any plan ever

Has anybody else noticed that Chiyonokuni seems to be in some kind of berserker rage this tournament? Don't think I've seen anybody be quite so violent match after match after match before it like he's not even trying to wrestle he just wants to bash right through them instead

Glad to see Hoshoryu battle through ichinojo TWICE after being sick for the past few days, wow

almost all the day 8 matches are worth watching, really fun day capped by tamawashi almost getting teru out of the ring.

soup wrote:Yeah I loved his bout against tobizaru today but I'm so worried for his knees :(

tobi's definitely been more aggressive and i've enjoyed all of ura's bouts but he's taken a beating. it looked like he stepped on the rope weird? but look at this tender sumo frandz moment:

Image

hoshoryu managing to take down ichinojo, and then have to redo the bout and then get the win on the second try. phew.

and yeah chiyonokuni is up first here, makes head contact in the tachiai and immediately follows with some hits to the face. he's 7-2 so uh ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

hoshoryu/waka at 14:30 is great. incredible throw by hoshoryu.

also ohfuck daiesho gets teru out. i can't really tell but it looks like teru gets his left hand tangled in daiesho's elbow wrap?Toggle Spoiler

Catching up on things... Day9

Wasn't looking at ranks, guess chiyonokuni is about to get booted to juryo so it makes sense he's being a little extra this month. Tbh I can name 5-6 other guys who should go to juryo before him so I was surprised to see that.

Hoshoryu's throw was incredible. :)

I think teru grabbed the elbow wrap and it slipped off, causing him to lose grip which threw the balance off enough for him to not be able to resist getting moved out. Sucky way to break a streak but hey.

Sad to see takayasu go down like that I think his back is done for.

Was watching yesterdays vids too and was gonna say that shodai was finally looking calm and winning by technique again like he was many many many months ago and today reinforced that.

I can't believe turbo hamster is coming back from the absolute brink to save his ozeki rank yet again, I woulda given that 0% chance of happening on like day 3 or whatever... it smells very fishy

i feel like he had some matches in the early days of this basho where I thought he had found a new approach but he's doing this wild stuff now. idk what he thinks is gonna happen but i'll watch it.

Ura's knee has to be bothering him. day 10 & 11 he's been a mess. Takayasu looks like he's been wresting at 50% this whole basho. he managed to really stay in with Teru but wow did Teru dump him out. Takayasu doesn't fight in day 12.

day 12 stuff: tochinoshin have none of choyonokuni's aggro look.

tobi comes out with some sumo and a fun throw against tokushoryu.

good matches from waka the last two days too.

oh shit meisei gets teru too. real fight from meisei, good to see these matches not as timid as the last basho.Toggle Spoiler

day 13

tobi v kaisei is like, man tobi has to find something to do with the massive opponents it was kinda funny. i feel like maybe just put in a good show and assume you get the L.

good sumo from waka and takanosho does well against chiyonokuni's rage approach. good sumo towards the end of the program from myogiru against takakeishi and onosho against shodai. mitakeumi gives teru a good bout and then teru just picks him up and walks him out of the ring.

day 14 is good fun.

tobi's up at 3mins and i'm amazed his goofy moves took this one. terutsiyohi working hard to set up a whole judo on chiyonoo.

ura's dismissal of kaisai made me smile. teru bowling takakeishi into the ref was a fun end. idk i thought this was a fun basho maybe i'm just getting a better understanding.

Hakuho apparently already got coach Magaki's elder stock a month or two ago secretly, so presumably he will change his name to that unless his current stable's coach also gives him his stock when he retires next year, which means he could sell the magaki stock (maybe to Ichinojo who got his Japanese citizenship yesterday so he can retire and become a coach too)
