i gotta get ahold of the person at school who was helping me band aid over the swiss cheese hole in my brain where the capacity to form habits and conceptualize time is is supposed to go but i feel bad about this insane email i sent him where i was liek "I have 9 holds on my student account and need to get them all off by tomorrow can you save me please" when there was nothing he could do about that and i took care of them on my own

TW: suicide. sorry to bring the thread down

i got sad when i was trying to reminisce on my lung collapsing (lol) because i remembered that when i got outta the hospital a couple weeks later, the freshman residents on my floor (i was an RA...the cool RA who never wrote anybody up and got free room and board... please don't judge me) had made all these amazing hilarious hallway decorations to celebrate my return. they made me cry. one of them was a replica of the house from the Pixar movie Up, with a bunch of paper balloons attached to it saying stuff like "I WANNA BE FOREVER LUNG" and "YOU TAKE MY BREATH AWAY!" and a nice mix of weird/sincere/sweet messages. they'd also done this competition where they all tried to draw me with their eyes closed, it was very funny. also this barely a few weeks into the semester - i barely knew them, and they showed me so much love during a time where i was spiraling. not just because of the lung thing but that definitely didn't help matters.

anyway, one of the residents who was basically responsible for most of it - she was the one who built the replica Up house (it was really good! i kept it for years afterwards!) and had the idea for the closed eyes drawing contest lol - was very sweet and pretty quiet. but i thanked her for all of it, because it really did bring me out of a dark place - even just for a little bit. and over the course of what was a shitty and difficult year for me, i became aware that she was also dealing with an immense amount of pain and loss. she'd lost her mom to suicide barely a year before, something that she later wrote about openly and very movingly. she wanted more resources for survivors of suicide, she was clear-eyed & angry about the limitation of 'mental health awareness' in actually providing material comforts and support to fellow survivors. she wanted to change that. and then, a few years ago, i found out that she too had died by suicide. she was 22. i don't really know why i'm typing all of this out except that the reminder (of the loss itself, and of the passage of time since) stung, and that i still think about how meaningful her gestures of kindness towards me were at that time in my life. i wrote to her brother shortly after she died, i still think about all the loss that he experienced and hope that he's survived it as best as he can. it's already been 5 years, which shocks me. rest in peace :(

edit: found a pic of the house. all those strings led to the paper balloons with different peoples' messages on them :)

it's so fucking weird to be a person -- i mean, always, but especially right now in a time of unfathomable loss and unfathomable beauty on the precipice of unfathomable suffering

I did a little cleaning, but am leaving the dirty dishes for my fabulous HCA duo. I wonder if they can clean out my car as well. They are coming tomorrow.
