My favorite Italian hoagie spot closed down earlier this year and it makes me very sad.

in 1986, maybe, but times have changed. Or maybe you still ask for oil and vinegar on the hoagie and a splash behind the ear for hitting the club later.
There is just too much hamicide going on in there.

I'm pretty sure when i was in 5th-6th grade i would walk to the hoagie place and order an Italian. Precocious, ready for all those slices.

The best thing about an italian hoagie is the best one is the one you make at home

is shredded lettuce an Italian Hoagie staple? or, rather, a necessity?

Salt & Pepper, Oil & Vinegar? some of the most exciting questions posed to a young hoagie grinder.

Good to have but any lettuce will do. It's probably the least essential component

Lettuce needs to be shredded to catch more oil and vinegar

It’s up there.
My hometown pizza place made the best Italian hoagies.

the problem with a BLT is the sandwich has no body
BLT are just supplements to the main attraction

The real problem with a blt is that its the best sandwich but you can only make an optimal one during those six days in the summer when tomatoes are good

It definitely makes it a special event to have one. If I could eat a great one year round it might lose a little spark
