somehow, the main event was actually the longest match, but god, it felt like they didn't get the time they needed. would have loved to hear Page speak to the crowd.

3 great matches in the opener, main event and punk/kingston. Bryan/Miro didn't hit the heights it could have, but as a last minute fill-in, it's hard to do much better. Jericho and Cody in the two worst matches, despite having PAC and MMA guys doing fun stuff. speaks volumes of where they are at.

on this, they've basically only ever done knock-out tournaments, usually with 8 people, so yeah, anything different would be a pleasant surprise. a round-robin into finals would be nice

Really good show other than the Cody and Jericho matches, which weren’t awful but unnecessary. Need to go back and rewatch the Hangman match because I was sort of dozing off.

They’ve gotten better at it since their start but they really need to realize that not every match needs to go 10+ minutes. Only one match on the main card was under 15 minutes and that was Eddie/Punk. Adds bloats and makes the first 5-10 minutes of every match feel inconsequential because you know there’s zero chance it’s ending. But that’s only a minor complaint and I had a blast watching the show. Kudos AEW.

The Inner Circle match was awful. The Cody match wasn’t good, but the crowd made it seem like an all-time dud. I enjoyed every other match.

Gonna watch the last three matches of Battle in the Valley today, but wanted to say I really enjoyed the Ospreay/Narita match.

Not sure if it was already known, but Bronson Reed/JonahToggle Spoiler debuted at Battle in the Valley. Want to see him fight Cobb so bad.

Yeah every match being 20 minutes plus is pretty exhausting

I definitely felt the fatigue past about the 2 hour mark.

Darby vs MJF was the MOTN, I think. I liked but didn't love Punk/Kingston. Hangman vs Omega was very good but the Young Bucks finish took away from the moment, I think. It does set up a very interesting BTE. I actually didn't buy the finish because I was sure Hangman was kicking out of a OWA before the match was over.

Lots of weird finishes. Bryan vs Miro, Lucha Bros/FTR, the main event.

Was pretty weirded out by Lethal coming in, as the lone ROH signing, given his sexual harassment allegations. Probably took away from my main event hype, tbh. If Gresham, for instance, got the same spot, I'd have been super down for it. (Fwiw, maybe they'd have done Gresham but I know he was out of town supporting his wife Jordynne Grace, going for powerlifting records but still, someone else would be nice.)

I’m hoping this is the case. I’d feel a lot more confident if it had been any other member of The Foundation, though. But I get why they’d go Lethal over Titus, Williams or Woods (or all four with a Gresham tease).

I saw Jonah Rock v Cobb at a PWG show a few years ago, very good match

Also I went to an NJPW show locally tonight, just got home.

I have been to NJPW in Japan so this wasn’t my first New Japan show but it was like a big indie show with some NJPW names I finally got to see (Switchblade, Ishii, Juice)

Also got to see Gresham finally, he rules. Also Josh Barnett wrestled which was sort of an attraction.

Ishii wrestled Brody King and it was really good.

Also Fred Rosser shaved his head and he looks a lot meaner now.

This show goes on the Roku channel for free, worth checking out.

It was a great show. Some moments sort of ruined by smart mark heckler guys that sat near me, which was annoying.

I didn’t realize the Strong shows were going up on Roku so quickly. I figured since Fite is still selling them, that Roku was still putting up old matches on Roku. That’s awesome, though. I’ll check them out.

They were advertising the Roku thing during the event so I figured it would be on there but it seems more likely it will just go on NJPWWorld and FITE

Yeah, I checked and Roku seems to still just be old PPV going up one or two matches per week. I’ll gladly drop the $8 for those Strong shows, though, so no worries.

Still wondering if the blood on Adam Cole & CM Punk was fake.

Pretty good show. Some solid matches undermined by bad finishes.

My crew definitely thought so. Maybe Punk and Cole just have exact matching, paint-like blood that doesn't seem to move much

Every time I think I've got a grasp on how dumb/shitty/mismanaged WWE is, they manage to raise the bar. Hit Row did the good in NXT -> mismanaged on the main roster -> released speedrun

Man I love Danielson. I’ve switched 100% to AEW. I used to just skim through the results of Raw, nowadays I barely care about what happens on WWE PPV’s. Maybe because they don’t seem to care themselves. It’s just content shat out, where AEW feels genuinely exciting a lot of the time.

Also I don’t regret doing some of these NJPW’s meet & greets when I had the chance. It might be kind of some hysterical teenage fanboy stuff, but I’m still so happy having met some of these dudes. Like Ishii, who showed up on Dynamite and he’s so great.
