The WWE roster is delayed in its return from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, following a historic performance at yesterday’s record-breaking WWE Crown Jewel event.

More than 175 Superstars, production crew and employees boarded a 747 charter flight back to the United States on Thursday. After the door closed, due to several aircraft problems including mechanical issues, all passengers sat on the tarmac for more than six hours. With SmackDown set to emanate live from Buffalo, N.Y., several Superstars felt so strongly that they arranged for their own separate charter in order to make it back to the U.S. for the show. Due to unforeseen issues, that charter will not land until after the live broadcast on FOX.

As always with WWE, the show must go on. Live at 8/7 CT on FOX, SmackDown will feature Superstars, such as Daniel Bryan, The Miz, Carmella, Nikki Cross, Dana Brooke — plus, additional surprises.

For the latest updates on this story and tonight’s SmackDown, check back with WWE.com and follow WWE on social media

not surprising. maybe I am missing something but I think fans online are better at promoting NJPW in english language spaces than NJPW is.

bryan vs gulak after bryan interrupts a powerpoint presentation when gulak thought he'd get the whole episode to do one.

I really believe AEW is going to force their hand in that regard eventually. You've got a company that is giving it's all to entertain the fans with a conglomerate of many of the best at doing that--creatively, workrate and promo wise. Seems likely they tap into a real zeitgeist with fans. I mean, look how many eyes Omega's videogame cosplay got on it. I'm hoping the dam breaks open and there's a true cultural renaissance for wrestling. And of course when that happens VKM will piggyback off it just like he did with ECW in creating the attitude era. Or maybe he is just sitting on so much money these days that he truly doesn't give a fuck.

I guess it’s just NXT to the rescue tonight. Bryan vs Cole for the NXT championship.

Yeah this is actually pretty good and it’s maddening that they’d never do something this interesting and simple to pull off without being forced to do it.

Imagine telling someone, on the night of Daniel Bryan's retirement, that he would come back and wrestle a 5 star match on Smackdown that included him taking a fucking canadian destroyer.

wish they could have found a way to work Dream into that show but that was easily the best episode of SD since debuting on Fox (not exactly a high bar but still!)

Weird that nxt were treated like faces on the smackdown brand show.

As much as I loved the match. Adam Cole has a dang stable and is a heel champion. Maybe they should have been involved in the finish?
You don’t have to make the whole brand look like chumps on their own show in order to make nxt look strong.

Daniel Bryan probably insisted that the champ of the other brand go over clean.
