Haven't got a chance to watch much AEW last couple weeks despite still really liking the company quite a bit, but I had to actively seek out Riho vs Kris S from last week because I kept hearing about it being beyond terrible. The actual match wasn't bad at all, but of course you had so much convoluted bullshit going on with Brandi's faction and her burying everyone on commentary. And wtf is up with AEW just having characters pop up with no introduction and assuming anyone is going to give a fuck? "That's Luther, the Japanese wrestling deathmatch legend!" What % of fans even know this dude? They did the same deal with Butcher and Blade a while ago. What kept this segment from being as horrible as I'd heard is that at no point did the fans seem to be actually disinterested in Riho and Statlander who both seem to be very over. Idk it could be a good genuine heel vs face dynamic to see two factions form and have the faces prevail, but I just hope they get it over soon and end this Nightmare Collective vanity project of Brandi's. She was so good paired with Cody.

Even though the Collective has been going on forever, I really thought they were over it a few weeks ago, as far as hogging the spotlight. They had Statlander out of nowhere with all this momentum, Riho was never on so even the fans that preferred her couldn't argue a title change that much (this will be the last time Riho and Brock are in the same sentence), it was all set. KS having the prior commitment sucked for all involved, but why did they even have to have a title match if she was busy? Just hold it off. Instead, the company that is trying to present this as more legit just randomly skips over the number one contender to give THREE OTHER WOMEN a title shot, one of which (Nyla) was essentially being rewarded with this opportunity after being suspended for attacking a referee!

I know they need to just do their own thing and not worry about The Other Guys, but they might want to pay attention more to WWE and learn from all of their endless mistakes to make sure they don't end up like them. Nobody is clamoring for WWE-Lite where talent ends up taking a backseat to stupid shit and a Stephanie 2.0 burying the wrestlers for no fucking reason.

Tessa Blanchard stepped in some shit on Twitter, saying girls shouldn't be bullies and then getting about 5 different female wrestlers on her calling her a historically huge bully, one saying she called another girl a racial slur and spat on her and another girl claiming to be the person in question.

Fuckin' yikes.

From today's Observer news update:

"After Tessa Blanchard tweeted “Hey women, try supporting one another. Cool things happen” today, Allysin Kay accused Blanchard of spitting in another wrestler’s face and calling them the n-word in 2017: “Remember when you spat in a black woman’s face and called her the N-word in Japan? Was that you ‘supporting women’? The AUDACITY of this tweet.”
Blanchard tweeted in response to what Kay wrote: “not true. That’s my statement and the most attention I’ll give it because of how actually ridiculous it is.”
Chelsea Green commented on Blanchard’s first tweet: “You’ve consistently put down, bullied, and belittled countless female coworkers, including me. Is that support?”
Blanchard responded to Green: “I’ve never been anything but kind to u. I’ve dealt with mean girls since I started..not saying I’m a saint, hell I’ve had my ups&downs & Ive made silly decisions...Such is life. u have ZERO merit in your comments..Instead putting me down here for a little clout...you’ve got my #!”
La Rosa Negra wrote that she was the wrestler that Kay was referencing in her tweet: “@Sienna & @ImChelseaGreen Thank you so Much!!!!.......That Story!!!!.... Yes, that's happens on Japan 2017!!! If @Tessa_Blanchard do not Remember it ... Can I!..I am not a Mean Girl with any Coworkers around the world. Be kind of #racist is not ridiculous is a #sickness”
Shanna wrote in support of La Rosa Negra: “[Blanchard] did more nasty stuff in Japan... Never forget. Practice what you preach sweetheart. I standby @LaAbusadoradePR, she's a fun loving person who would never disrespect anyone. Much love to you Rosa.”
Isla Dawn and Priscilla Kelly responded to Blanchard’s original tweet. Dawn tweeted: “As someone who experienced your bullying firsthand, received regular verbal abuse, was spat on, had rumours spread about me, dealt with multiple attempts by you to blacklist me from other companies, (plus more), I just pray you now follow your own advice.”
Kelly wrote: “Remember publicly putting me down on twitter last year for something that didn’t involve you whatsoever, then continuing to drag my name to other people for it? Pepperidge Farm Remembers. You should probably delete this tweet.”
Wrestling Inc’s Nick Hausman noted that Blanchard didn’t do media at today’s media day for Impact’s Hard to Kill PPV. Blanchard is challenging Sami Callihan for the Impact World Championship in the main event of the PPV tomorrow.{

Of the things she's accused of, I am absolutely uninterested in her doing sex work as anything even being worth mentioning.

Spitting on a POC and bullying people is being a bad person. Sex work is just doing a job, arguably one less disgusting at times that being involved in wrestling is.

i dunno i think it's important to point out when female wrestlers are victimized by someone leaking a private sex work thing even if it's someone who done racist shit and being a bad person.

more awful shit about it popped up in my twitter feed today. jim cornette played it on his podcast and made fun of her while also defending her because she was potatoed by la rosa negra. that's gross blatant sexism and racism and just ignoring it won't make it go away.

From that angle, sure- I agree. I thought you were saying 'she did all this awful stuff plus weird sex stuff', in which case, uh... The weird sex stuff feels very secondary

My Mania card, as it stands would be something like:

Becky vs Ronda (who returns and wins Rumble)
Aleister Black vs Brock Lesnar for the Universal Title (Black eliminates Brock from the Rumble)
Reigns/Bryan/Fiend for the WWE Title (Bryan/Fiend disputed finish, Reigns wins the Rumble)
John Cena vs Edge - One Last Time (If Edge is returning)
Matt Riddle vs Goldberg (Rumble angle with both as surprises, one eliminates the other, the other causes the eliminator to be eliminated)
Undisputed Era vs Seth's crew
Mysterio/Cain/Humberto vs Andrade/Monster debut under a lucha mask (maybe Killer Kross?)/Angel Garza in a lucha six man

You'd still need big stuff for: McIntyre, Orton, Charlotte, Sasha, Corbin, Asuka and others

What I expect:

Reigns vs The Fiend
McIntyre vs Lesnar
Becky vs Shayna
Baron Corbin vs a Legend in a retirement match
Taker/Big Show/KO/Joe vs Seth's Crew
And everyone else in tossed together whatever matches

Looking over the Rumble card and it looks pretty great, actually. Haven't kept up to say the least, but have they really pushed Black on a level to where they'd give him this position? Admittedly it definitely looks like the freshest match for Brock and I'd be into it. I really don't see any other fresh options, so I guess it's possible? I could maybe even see them having Brock eliminating, like, half the entrants tonight and then taking it easy until it gets down to the last few and actually winning? Probably a stretch since he's used to working 8-10 minute matches, but they could pull it off with some creative booking and then have Heyman brag about it until some challenger comes along and they book an angle to set up the Mania match. Unlikely scenario but who knows. Isn't it likely that the winner will challenge for the other title anyways? This actually does look like an excellent card and it's got me looking forward to it to some degree. Happy to see Sheamus back.

Just realized Edge may very well return tonight despite adamantly denying he'll step back in the ring. Him at 30 would be one of the all-time pops in wrestling history.

Feel like they're going to go with Roman winning tonight and have him challenge the fiend. And maybe Brock being eliminated by Cain to extend that into Mania? Rumble is always fun so i'm pretty excited. I'd mark out hard for a cm punk return, edge would be cool too i guess.

Honestly feel like Punk at number two after Lesnar's entrance would be the biggest pop in the history of the company outside of a few Austin/Rock moments.

in my experience, you'll at least need a new email but they are too lazy to check anything else so you can use the same card and address and everything.

He's one of the 3-4 most pushed guys on Raw right now, I'd say. It'd be an elevation, for sure but him or McIntyre are the two active guys most likely to win the Rumble, I think.

Edge has been strongly rumored, Punk really hasn't. I think the vague, if unexpected anticipation would fuel Edge to a huge pop and I think a Punk pop would be a surprise pop, maybe even diminished by the 'wtf' factor of it

It would be diminished personally for me because he left the industry and has expressed he legit had no love for it any longer. I feel like he'd only do it for the wrong reasons at this point. Edge was 100% forced to retire due to injury while he still had a tremendous love for his job. Not saying Punk had no reason to be cynical or remove himself from the business, but I really have no desire to see him wrestle again at this point. One of the most over guys ever so VKM might give him that Mania main event one day if either of them reaches out. A returning Punk vs a returning Cena headlining Mania is probably the biggest match that could happen, but that's getting to be way out there fantasy booking territory.

i'm not sure i agree. Punk was upset because he was working a ridiculous schedule while hurt, and he felt that despite that, the company wasn't rewarding how over he had gotten through his own talent. i think his remark about not loving it anymore has to be understood in that context. i could very easily see him agreeing to something if he were able to work out some kind of limited appearance reduced schedule thing the way Brock and Goldberg did. which he might indeed be able to do given how much his value has gone up, and how AEW has pushed Vince. and Vince would of course do it if the price was right. i guess i'm being a mark here, but to me the fact that Punk left on his own terms for those reasons is what would make a return by him that much more compelling than the usual wrestler return.
