I think this is the first time the entry model has a dedicated GPU this generation. Also they upped the base storage

Looks solid! I'm waiting on a smaller version to finally replace my 11" MacBook Air from 2012.

2x hdmi signals over usb-c is not possible bandwidth-wise except using DisplayLink compression which is a garbage barely-functional product on the Mac platform. you can get thunderbolt 3 docks that do this for about $300, e.g.

https://www.apple.com/shop/product/HMX12ZM/A/caldigit-ts3-plus-dock?afid=p239%7C197432&cid=aos-us-aff-ir

but for reasons that aren't clear to me most of these only support a second external monitor via plugging a usb-c--hdmi dongle into the dock

Where is the best place to buy a used iMac? now that I’m not working at my old company anymore, I had to say goodbye to the ludicrously specc’d out $12k iMac Pro I was using to edit for the past year

The prices seem to vary wildly on craigslist, people don’t really know how to gauge the resale value

Oh nice I didn’t know about that, thanks. Gonna check it out now

Also are all 27” iMacs capable of upgradeable RAM? It seems so much cheaper to buy it yourself and upgrade the memory rather than add on $600 for 32GB through Apple. I’m just not sure if there are only certain models that have that capability

Does anyone have a Google Hangouts compatible app that they use on OS X? It'd be nice to have a standalone desktop app for it.

This is probably a boomer type question but the newer MacBook we bought is somehow synced to my phone, so when I get text messages they show up as notifications on the laptop. How do I stop this lol

Never mind I figured it out

Your iCloud storage is almost full. You are using 4.4 GB of your 5 GB iCloud Storage.

Hey my girlfriend is looking into getting an iPad. She basically wants something that she can use with a tablet pen and a Photoshop style application. What generation should I be looking at if we want to get a used one?

Also does anybody use their iPad with a keyboard to type up essays and stuff? Is that terribly uncomfortable or is it fine?

the new keyboard case looks genuinely great tho no one has reviewed it yet. if it's going to be a primary device for
her I would def consider holding off a couple months to see how that is and consider getting one of the compatible
models if you can (I think it's only the Pros but supports the 1st gen pro)

It only supports the 2nd (2018) and 3rd (2020) gen pros. I’ll probably get it in May when its out

I have a 12.9” iPad Pro from 2018 with the folio keyboard case. Typing is great. I barely touch my MacBook anymore, this is basically my main computer. I also use it as an additional monitor via sidecar with my iMac when I’m editing

iPad Pro with apple pencil gen2 is a godsend for all my school notes. The pencil is great for writing out math formulas that you simply can't type up. Handwritten notes on an iPad app like GoodNotes or Notability is a revelation as you can move/cut/paste/resize all your notes.

Typing on a keyboard is perfectly fine because you just find any good bluetooth keyboard you like and connect to it.

personal tips:
- I wish I got the bigger iPad pro.
- use a matte film protector to greatly improve the "feel" for writing on the ipad with the stylus

Just look up youtube videos of folks showing how to use an ipad for their school work and you'll be sold.
