Man it's gonna be 9 tomorrow morning but I really wanted to go out. Think I can do it without wanting to die?

the first time i went out to ride in serious snow and cold was the winter after i started biking for transportation in Chicago (i guess like 2002) and i was working really late on a work deadline and i was out of smokes and all the neighborhood places were closed and the nearest 7-11 was like a mile away and it was 17 degrees and i honestly wasnt sure if it was possible. it was fine, esp late at night with no traffic.

when i think about all the goddamn winter miles and the thousands of dollars i dropped on winter gear and layers between then and coming to my senses and finally leaving cold weather forever...

anyway i hope wolfie isnt dead

whenever people come into the bike shop and are all "i want to ride through the whole winter" i'm like "okay let's get you a $600-$1000 clothing set that will prepare you for every 5 degree temperature change" and they go "okay where are your indoor trainers"

I survived

It wasn't too bad. No wind and sunny. I wore 3 layers on the bottom and four on top.

Polartec gloves. Fortunately I threw a pair of rag wool gloves in my vest. Half way through I pocketed the freezing wet fleece garbage and even though the wool gloves were fingerless they were still better on the way back

Something a little different, spent the day as a mechanic in neutral support 1 at the NZ elite national champs. New course this year which looked to be much harder than the previous course. After racing those past champs I was quite happy to be in the car this year. We had a stress free day 1 dropped chain and 1 puncture. The hardest part was getting back to the front of the convoy after a nature break.

Nice one g2d - I watched a bit of the footage (which was ridiculously bad with shaky on-motorbike camera footage) - particularly the woman's race as I was rooting for Ella to win. My mate Ollie had a good ride in the mens for 5th, too. Geez Bennett is a BEAST!

The footage was awful, those motos were struggling. There was a bit of an arguments going on between chief comms and the camera crews interfering with the race. Though for that city circuit we were stuck behind the peloton so had to rely on the radio and live feed for updates.

It's a shame the womens race wasn't covered as well, I've been rewatching it and the action was superb. Ollie's ride was so good, there was also the other young guy Josh in that final chase group who spent about half of last year off the bike and was racing a titanium frame.

I was so happy a WT rider got the win, either Bennet or Archibold were worthy winners. I was rooting for Torckler to take the win though, total dark horse who who rode amazingly.

Also another notable finisher was Hayden Wilde though he was in the peloton at the end, I don't think I've seen him in a road race before, and the night before had run at the 1500m champs.

Guys help me out. I want to replace my mountain knobbiest with a faster rolling tire. My current tires are 26x1.95

Can I go to these in 26x1.5?

https://www.schwalbetires.com/bike_tire ... _racer_429

And change to these inner-tubes in 26x1.4/1.75 Schrader?

Yes and yes. Both will work nicely.

I'm a big fan of Marathons, great tyres that are as durable as the name suggests.

yeah don’t rush. you can do a lot of little tweaks and really discover what kind of bicyclist you are with little upgrades here and there and when you do get a Nice Bike you’ll apreciate it even more. my first 3-4 years of city riding were on mtb and hybrid frames.

I'ma do it

Spend like $150, get the tires sorted and replace the handlebars and stem to solve that shit once and for all

Buy my kids bikes and say I'll wait a year to get mine

Then buy mine three months later

so i changed my tires over on friday and man these are way better. no more buzzing, no more instantly slowing down when you stop pedaling for a minute. just gliiiiiiiiiiide, baby

also change to dad-bars brought me up an inch or so, enough to make things v comfortable.

it was 55 here yesterday. went out with the kids and some friends. gonna be friggin 63 today!

Has anyone here packed their bike into a cardboard box and taken it on a plane with them?

i’ve shipped bikes in carboard via fed ex and i’ve flown with bikes in hard cases. but i’d be kinda scared to do a cardboard box on a commerici flight. i might be bein’ weird but that seems sketchy to me.
