Humans in space suits make monkeys nervous

Postby shizaam » Sat Aug 21, 2021 3:30 pm

edit: gah top of page

only way I used to do it was with weekday commuting miles. Especially after the past year, no idea how I was getting much beyond that during the week.

rode 80 this morning, first time in nearly a month over 65 miles. got a big 125 mile ride in the middle of September with a fair amount of climbing and don’t want to be completely miserable on the back half.

when i got back from my magic legs ride on thursday, the tornado sirens started blaring.

this was taken a half mile north of my house.

so it looks like my stats were equal parts fitness and an abundance of ions in the air.

always love when a box truck turns from a two way stop into your straight travel lane and then honks and yells like it’s your fault they almost smoked you

the fuckin road narrows as it goes over these railroad tracks and a bike and a box truck can’t both fit

I’ve got the right of way you hick fucking asshole

morons like this should be executed

have had a bad string of nearly being hit by people doing illegal u-turns in the middle of NY streets. probably just all the traffic that's rushed back, but it's real bad

I have probably posted this before but I have felt substantially less safe on my streets since traffic came back last summer than I ever did before

really sick of this weather. had been planning an awesome 75 mile ride for this weekend with some great coffee and food stops, weather was supposed to be 60s and 70s, and now weather turned to trash and it's supposed to pour for the 4th weekend in a row

There were not one but two dust devils in empty lots on my commute home. One actually moved right through my path as I was passing, it was fucking wild and hurt like hell, I’ve got sand everywhere.

think i went too hard last night. was nearly 90˚after sunset and pretty humid, and went real hard for 45 minutes and my HR was just out of control the whole time. been feeling kinda nauseous and headache-y all morning.

I got all geared up to go out after work yesterday but when the heat hit my face I just couldn't do it and got on the indoor bike instead. Fuck summer.

Thinking the stages left-only power meter I got a few months ago for my road bike isn't super accurate, or that I should have just bought the same one that was on my cx bike. Tossed the cx bike (w/ a quarq) on the trainer on Friday, wasn't going entirely all out and tied my 8 minute power record, which I haven't been able to even get close to on my road bike for months. So now I think I need to run some tests, compare trainer power vs CX (to see how close that is) on the same virtual. ride, then trainer power vs. road bike...

Without a consistent, accurate number across bikes, it really throws off training, though it does make me feel a little better that I haven't lost a ton of fitness over the past 3 months.

I just finished Tyler Hamilton's The Secret Race and man, it does not seem fun to be a pro bike racer. At least with running you can only train a couple hours a day max.

yeah.

p fucked up that my main takeaway from that book was when he was talking about taking sleeping pills and chugging perrier after training so you can sleep without feeling hungry, thinking, "dang, that's a good idea!"

I think about this often, when I got into racing I was 'too old' to really have a hope of making it pro. I know if I were just a few years younger I would've just gone all in and done whatever it takes.

I love Tyler's book, don't think I will forget his retelling of getting the wrong blood bag, it sounded horrific.
