Sauber got the best-looking car. Psyched for them to win it all this year

McLaren (more blue!), Merc and Haas improved too. The rest, not so much..

I hadn't heard anything about that Netflix series. Pleasant surprise! The McLaren series on Amazon last year was a bit of a letdown since they clearly didn't have permission to film any official F1 track time or activities or however they define it for licensing purposes.

Mercedes & Ferrari aren't in the doc, so don't get too excited

I'm trying not to be excited but Red Bull Honda are looking feisty

Yeah looks like they've got a great car this year. Bit of a drag Mercedes & Ferrari aren't in the doc. Would love to see some candid Arrivabene and Kimi clips.

Sure but it seems weird to not have arguably the sport's two largest stars in your documentary, especially with 9 WDCs between them

Dope! I can’t believe we only have a week to go til Australia.

Is anyone going to any races this year? I’m all set for Barcelona and I can’t wait.

Gonna binge the Netflix show over the weekend.

Also I always preferred the barcode Marlboro logo. The MW was stupid looking. If you’re gonna try to sneak some cigarette ads on the car at least make them not look like a TV channel logo.

It’s crazy getting into F1 in the last year and having the most storied teams doing so poorly. Everything I read about the history had Williams and McLaren on top but that seems like history now.

I might go to the USGP this year, we'll see

Still waffling on Indycar, and that's in two weeks

Definitely go to IndyCsr dude. Those races are a blast and the paddock is wide open to spectators.

We are probably not going to any races this year, unfortunately. My wife has a work commitment that prevented us from lining up our Japan trip with the race. Montreal is always a possibility I suppose; last year we threw it together about 10 days out. We'll be in Europe with a free weekend for Spain, but it would be a mad dash to get to the track for qualifying and I don't want to half ass a race weekend.

Dunno why the Netflix show couldn't have just interviewed Merc/Ferrari after the season - like most of these interviews seem to be - and just used that with race/regular in-season footage. Would've worked ok without hanging out in the garages all year and bothering them. On ep 3 atm. Does feel weird, like Red Bull are the preeminent team on the grid or something.

lol this is dire (UK F1 viewing options) - https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/formula1/47542802

It's the first year of a five-year deal that sees every race except Silverstone exclusively on pay TV - Sky (in the past three years, free-to-air Channel 4 has been able to show about half the races). The subscription to be able to watch F1 every year until the deal ends in 2024 costs $60 a month rn.

And now Channel 4 has all these restrictions on what they can do with their highlights shows...

Only 50% of the total running time of Channel 4's programme can now be taken up by the on-track coverage
Not allowed to do interviews in what is known as the 'pen'
Forbidden from doing a 'grid walk'

On top of all this, Channel 4 has cool presenters like Coulthard, Webber and Jordan while Sky is just an endless Hamilton circlejerk with Herbert, Hill, Di Resta..

The Sky deal is worth a reputed £1.2bn to F1 over its duration. That means income from Sky UK alone amounts to about 11% of F1's turnover and Sky has effectively become the sport's biggest single sponsor.
