I am leaning toward Toni still
This whole thing sucks and nobody cares which will mean a lot of ward races are decided by like 3 votes so that will be fun

I've never seen an election this bleak in the city even during the years when daley didn't even have to campaign to get re-elected.

ive been sorta worried about the prospect of a chicago mayor with a good radical platform getting elected and then just easily held at arms length from doin anything by the machine. rahm, besides being a racist shithead, has done a marvelous job of consolidating power for himself through a lifetime of manipulation and alliance-building. i changed my mind to probably gonna vote for toni mostly cuz seiu endorsed her. i think that she would have a lot more success advancing her agenda than anyone younger or less integrated into the machine. and fuck you daley! if you’re reading this! youre not gonna win this one dickhead!

rick perlstein had a post yesterday about how the top five are all within the margin of error of first and that this minimizes the importance of voting for toni as an anti-daley gesture as daley may not even make the run-off. vote your real preference in the primary, vote strategically if daley makes the run-off.

these candidates are pretty indistinguishable to me and i'm not even seeing a point in casting a mayoral ballot. if it comes to it i'll begrudgingly vote against daley in the runoff

everyone should be voting for their alderman though, your vote actually counts quite a bit, and most wards have at least one candidate worth supporting

thread:

even considering gambling as a revenue stream sucks ass but at least JB is prioritizing a progressive income tax and legalizing it (weed).

i'm ok with gambling just because i think vices should be legal. people will always gamble, drink, hire a sex worker, and take drugs no matter how many restrictions you put on it so might as well legalize it all.

also the fact that he's already factoring legal weed into his budget proposal makes me think they get that shit passed in the spring session, the language has already mostly been written already. maybe i'll be hitting up my weed shop by the end of the year?

i'm just weary of any legalized gambling as a regressive tax on the poor. dunno how sports betting compares to, say, the lotto or video slots.

like clearly people are gonna do what they're gonna do and i don't think you should get locked up for informally betting on a game or playing poker, but state-sanctioned gaming extracts more wealth from low-income communities by orders of magnitude. it's cannibalism.
