I've been trolling XRTs social media's (lightly) to try to pressure them to reinstate Local Anesthetic, but I don't think it's going to happen. Sucks that they just let their 1 hour a week of locally focused music slip away.

The fact that a major network station was even devoting one hour a week to local artists was amazing. I love to hate XRT.

Can't have that, when we have Friday double features of Sting/The Police though!

pastor - Atotonilco/Los Barrilitos
tripas - Chapparita
birria - Birrieria Patinos Ocotlan (altho if you have a car/dont mind going to Back of Yards, Birrieria Zaragoza on Pulaski is even better)
seafood - Las Islas Marias/ El Tecolote
family style sit down (also the best damn tortillas in the city) - La Casa de Samuel
lunch counter style - El Milagro
breakfast - La Catedral
vegetarian - El Faro
sunday morning menudo to-go - Los Olivos
caldo de mariscos - Los Langostinos. dont let the signs and reviews fool you (menu is mostly pasta items? lol). get the soup. its on par if not better than the stuff at Las Islas Marias and decent amount cheaper.
its a chain, but La Cocula is solid for lunch/dinner/platters
pizza - home run inn

so many more but thats off the top of my head

i dont really recommend drinking in La Villita at "bars" generally speaking unless youre prepared for some shit to go down and/or sit next to a guy who just got out of prison but Jacaranda is decent enough if youre craving a Michelada. i usually just hop on the train and go to Martins Corner or somewhere in Pilsen

what brings you down?

awesome, thank you so much! i live in pilsen, but heard good things about little village and have been meaning to check it out for a while. meeting someone who works near there for dinner in a couple days and she didn't really know any places so that's the specific occasion. but yeah i'll try out as many of those places as i can :) you live there?

my GF grew up there and has a house a couple blocks from 26th + central park so ive spent my fair share of time there past few years.

if its your first time definitely hit up Casa De Samuel. its a good neutral place with friendly wait staff, lot of options and super relaxing atmosphere. if its on a Friday evening theres a charming old man playing the Casio and signing Mexican ballads. the main drag is obviously 26th but theres still lots of good stuff on side streets/Cermak/Pulaski/31st etc. pretty much everywhere

Candidate Bill Daley was endorsed by former presidential candidate and Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean.

Dean was a sort of early version of Bernie Sanders, a progressive agent of change who was not afraid to rattle cages. He said Daley "is a sharp shooter and wants to clean up corruption. He's the real progressive in the race."

In appearing with Dean, Daley said he wants a referendum in 2020 to cut the City Council from 50 to 15 members.

daley reducing city council to 15 aldermen is consistent with his idea to reduce local school councils from every school to regional or some such thing. like he recoils at the possibility of dissent.

50 aldermen is so unnecessarily large, I could get down with having city council members who aren't responsive just to their little fiefdoms and think in slightly more regional ways

this mayoral field is just absolutely blah and turnout is going to be as poor as 2011 or 2015. Imagine that in an era where political participation and voting rates are the highest they've been in decades! Can't imagine anyone who comes out of this being more than a one termer - or at best a two termer with a bruising reelect in 2023.

classic case of someone knowing nothing about the current mood of Chicago and Dean just assuming Chicago still loves a Daley
reducing city council is such a lazy effort in consolidating power back into the machine and attempting to stamp out the ever growing progressive movement in this city

Well, that explains why Solis made the sudden, shocking announcement he wouldn't run for re-election.

They must have had some dirt on him or something to get him to wear a wire for 2 years. Crazy too because he withdrew from the aldermanic race after the filing deadline, so there's no establishment or hand-picked candidate in the race, it's all bright eyed millenials who filed to run against what were unwinnable odds.

those of you in the 25th, who are you all supporting to succeed solis? i'm leaning lopez because of the dsa endorsement but flores seems good too. met acevedo and he seemed like a good guy but a bit conservative, his dad trying to appoint him state rep also seemed kind of sketchy.

Not only that but Solis had to get a restraining order from Acevedo's brother who sent him threatening messages after Alex lost for state rep to the awesome theresa mah. Acevedo is the only one I'm against. I'll probably vote sigcho, even though I find him to be quite uncharismatic, but he's a straight up socialist who's been visibly leading the fight against gentrification and displacement in pilsen. Hilario Dominguez is extremely charismatic and already has the support of Chuy and Mah (which is about the biggest endorsements a 25th ward candidate could get), but doesn't have nearly the grassroots organizing chops of sigcho, but I like him because he was an elementary school teacher and I respect anyone who has the capacity to do that, he's also quite young (26!). Flores is fine, but has been vague on policy from what i've seen and doesn't have a particularly compelling story. Troy Hernandez isn't getting much support, but his background is in environmental justice so that's cool.

Kind of hilarious how mendoza and preckwinkle have to keep distancing themselves from burke and solis, returning money left and right while at the same accusing the other of being in their pocket.
