I'd be pretty surprised if he doesn't, all 4 candidates running against O'Connor were more or less all for the same progressive platform so I doubt he picks up any votes from those who didn't vote for Vasquez and likely loses some of his vote share without Daley in the run off, based on his results last night I think he would have been screwed even with Daley on the ballot

that's great man, thanks for all your hard work.

I've helped film or edit maybe six or seven events for Midwest Socialist, some campaign related, but I want to do more.

yeah I think I saw you share the filming of one about labor with kenzo?

Yep, about organizing within charter schools. Dunno when it'll be out though, editing is the bottleneck right now.

I'm telling ya top of ticket turnout is going to give all these lefty runoffs a huge boost. Everyone who was ok with rahm and everyone below that on the political spectrum is going to sit this one out (you know they wont be bothered to learn the distinctions between two black women who are gonna raise their taxes). And now that organizers don't have to worry about bill daley for the next five weeks they're gonna put all their energy into the aldermanic races. Wind is at your back fellas.

Also daley got his ass flushed out of our lives because he was the only candidate advocating to amend the constitution to change pension obligations which sent the Beverly and mt greenwood cop and firefighter union blocs to Joyce.

At an aldermanic forum for the 1st and 35th wards, proco joe had a bunch of off duty cops (I guess???) cheer during his applause breaks, but they were the only ones clapping, maybe six of them. It was real fuckin weird to me, i hadnt seen him or any of these machine types speaking but proco joe just exudes snake oil salesman.

As someone relatively new to city politics I guess that's a long way of asking how any of these people have had any base of support for this long? Like it's mayor quimby level caricatures of the shallow, anything-for-a-vote politicians out there.

Fuck this

https://www.chicagobusiness.com/article/20180724/BLOGS02/180729956/should-lori-lightfoot-s-gop-work-be-an-issue-in-the-chicago-mayoral-race?fbclid=IwAR03Zk1FWrtUY8eVd4qs6p_v6frsiBnDfE8QxSvAq7mWkBVySKd-8PVxw2U

But as a private attorney, Lightfoot repeatedly worked for Republican-leaning groups on key electoral matters—including a 2011 suit on behalf of GOP congressmen that, had it prevailed, might have prevented Democrats including Tammy Duckworth, Brad Schneider and Bill Foster from being elected to the U.S. House from Illinois.

Interestingly, Lightfoot does not assert that she was just being a lawyer representing a client. Instead, she fully stands by her work on philosophical grounds.

I specifically looked at two instances in which Lightfoot worked as lead attorney in recent years. One, in 2016, in which she represented a group named Independent Maps that wanted to turn a decennial legislative reapportionment over to an independent commission, and the other a 2011 federal court suit in which Lightfoot—and co-counsel Ty Fahner, a former GOP state attorney general—represented then-Republican congressmen including Peter Roskam, Robert Dold, Aaron Schock and Joe Walsh against a new map drafted by Springfield Democrats.

and maybe voting procedures are unrealistic for a lot of working class people

early voting and vote by mail options are pretty generous in chicago, and there's no voter ID requirement - but yeah i shouldn't assume what is or isn't realistic for folks in more difficult circumstances than my own.

when canvassing i was struck by the number of people who weren't even aware of the citywide election, who their alderman is, what an alderman does, etc., much less who rossana is and what she's about. layers of prologue to get through just to arrive at the pitch.

yeah there's a lot to overcome in just making people aware of things. if vote by mail weren't an option, i'd probably honestly never vote :$

brutal poll. i suspect negative lightfoot ads will shore up toni's numbers and I suspect a lot of lightfoots base (northside whites) will sit out this runoff.

Every election would get hacked. Paying taxes is different because it's about fulfillment of a contract that the IRS can track independently of the online system (e.g. if you "hack" the webform to say you owe less in taxes, well guess what the IRS still knows a priori what you owe).
