Both of these guys are so far past their prime. Simmons hasn't written a decent piece in three or four years. Just rank hubris on both sides.

I always kinda hated Simmons and his columns when he was writing but I like listening to (most of) his podcasts at work, he's far less overbearing

People sent that to me but I was just like...hooray for the argument of the beard! That he gets that kind of drunken after-midnight/edited the next morning shit in front of as many people as he does is sort of shocking.

His bball pieces are way too fucking long, he has Easterbrook/TMQ syndrome. Could not more obviously ape or envy that column, cannot muster a tenth of the depth.

I'll grant you there's nobody even close tackling the sport, but football has even *less* drama, bullshit and intrigue, and TMQ is even better.

I don't think I've ever read a simmons column, I don't even know where he publishes
but I read his big book of basketball straight through in about a week and I'll probably reread it on the shitter every other year until 2028

I'm a basketball guy but I thought his "Book of Basketball" was dreadful. It had about as much depth to it as an Uncle John's Bathroom Reader would have on the sport.

Wasn't the big "Secret" that the book revealed to success in basketball just teamwork? It took him 700 pages to come to that conclusion?

Klosterman talks like that kid in Freshman writing seminar who everyone wishes would shut the fuck up for a while. He's way too old/successful to get away with that shit.
