I think I mostly enjoyed this season, but man, yeah... very uneven. No real standout episodes, either, due to the lack of MotW stuff.

As part of the change, Kurtzman will now also oversee the Discovery writers room for season two.

Sources say the decision to oust Berg and Harberts was based not on the creative but instead for leadership and operational issues. Production on Discovery's first five episodes of season two are near completion, with Kurtzman likely taking over for episode six and beyond. Berg and Harberts, who were longtime collaborators with original showrunner Fuller, will likely still be credited on the episodes they oversaw. Sources say the budget for the season two premiere ballooned, with the overages expected to come out of subsequent episodes from Discovery's sophomore run. Insiders also stress that Berg and Harberts became increasingly abusive to the Discovery writing staff, with Harberts said to have leaned across the writers room table while shouting an expletive at a member of the show's staff. Multiple writers are said to have been uncomfortable working on the series and had threatened to file a complaint with human resources or quit the series altogether before informing Kurtzman of the issues surrounding Berg and Harberts.

This trainwreck of a TV show.

i know i've said this before but i think it'd be dope to do a TNG story in the nu-trek continuity (kelvin or wtf ever)

and have to reckon with how that continuity affects first contact with the borg and subsequent borg conflicts. maybe ever do it asa Days of Future Past type thing where they have to figure out where things went wrong and and fix them to save Vulcan.

a coda for the TNG cast would be great if they don't whiff it

and it would be doubly awesome if it launches a post-TNG series that finally fucking moves forward instead of endless prequels and reboots

An academy series seems like it would have limited chances for exploration unless they go full magic schoolbus and make every episode a field trip

Would love to see an academy series that leads up to an intergalactic warp drive being developed, second season is that class getting the mission to be first to explore the Andromeda galaxy

The prequels and time travel and Milky Way politics are all played out. Star Trek needs a new blank slate. It was a compelling premise for the Mass Effect games but they fucked it up by sticking to the old selection of 4-5 species instead of inventing 4-5 new ones.

I started watching The Expanse recently, and I think it'd be cool to have a new Star Trek that followed people in multiple locations. I've always wanted to know more about what daily life on Earth could be like in ST

Like what if we had a series where we follow one main character on Earth, one main character on a science vessel, and one main character on a frigate patrolling the neutral zone or some equivalent conflict border, but all 3 of their stories are connected in a larger arc and they all eventually end up together

but if a new series just wants to be another crew on another Enterprise, then they've got to have a likable, optimistic cast of characters who steadfastly represent compassion, curiosity, and diplomacy in the face of a wide range of hostilities and complex moral dilemmas.

like yes please go back to single-episode plots with thinly-veiled metaphors of contemporary politics. we need that shit now more than ever

because this "edgy" wannabe-prestige shit where all the main characters are grumpy assholes isn't working. Discovery is a disaster on par with the new DC films

It's crazy how much of a unwavering house style each network has these days. I wouldn't mistake Discovery for anything other than a CBS show -- its pacing and acting and visual aesthetic is exactly like all the network's various forensic / procedural law enforcement shows. Just as Scandal and Quantico look and move like Once Upon a Time and Agents of SHIELD.

i posted a bit in the deletions thread that i broke my ribs so stuck in bed for a while and decided to get into star trek. im watching the original season and i really love the costumes of monsters and the landscapes of cities are real lovely as well. i found the first few episodes very forumaltic ie they meet someone who tricks them with super powers they have then its an issue on killing them so im now following this guide to decide what episodes to watch. im up to a taste of armageddon. let me know if u think im missing any eps! im also on an insane dose of opiotes atm for my ribs so not very coherent and apologise in advance.
