It doesn't matter if they've never heard them. They still sound like them! Like if Primus went to art school instead of being NoCal stoners.

They failed Making the Bass the Loudest Instrument 101, though.

I just listened to the whole album in the car. They're definitely talented and have a cool sound. Kinda wish their writing was a little more focused but whatever. Like the album.

The she moves with a purpose song is the most memorable one and what made me say primus but it's not really representative of the album. Tons of influences in these songs. I hear a lot of Lightning Bolt.

yeah it's a good one. i mean i haven't really bothered with any other guitar record this year yet besides it, i think they did something kinda fresh with all of those influences. it's very entertaining.

I appreciated it! It got me to listen to a new indie-rock band and the end result strengthened my resolve to keep not listening to new indie-rock bands.

If I could, I would make it cool to like Primus, so comparing a new band to Primus wouldn't be considered an insult. And I mentioned King Crimson!

Highest score since D'Angelo, right? To Pimp a Butterfly was 9.3, let that sink in.

For as much relevance as Pitchfork has lost in the past few years, I still take notice when something gets that high a score. I think you're right that D'Angelo was the last one, big thief's 9.2 is the only 9+ I can think of from this year.

Their best albums/songs of the decade list is probably coming up soon. I wonder what album will get #1. I'm assuming my beautiful dark twisted fantasy would but after Kanye's trump fandom I don't think they'll give it that spot. Any guesses? I could see Blonde being their number 1 as well.
