God imagine clicking through a 200 place pitchfork list (which I'll probably shamefully do). Jesse Jarnow's been writing for them though, as has the guy from Doomandgloomfromthetomb, so maybe they'll sneak like the Tahoe Tweezer or Circles Around the Sun onto the list.

My random ass guess:

1. Beyonce - Lemonade
2. Kendrick - choose one
3. Sufjan - Carrie & Lowell
4. Ocean - Channel Orange
5. FKA Twigs - LP1

Not my ranking, just imagining them doing it that way.

I don't think Carrie and Lowell will make top 20 even though it should. Teen Dream will be top 20. I hope there's room for both Lost in the Dream and A Deeper Understanding. Both top choices for me. Bing and Ruth Tomorrow was the Golden Age is a top 5 ambient album of this decade IMO, hope it makes the list. I don't know why I care.

8.0 and no BNM, I know that's cusp but it sucks for it to be tranched.

Nah it’ll show up under “8.0+ reviews”, and that’s pretty good. I haven’t listened to that album yet, but I wouldn’t expect higher than an 8 from Pitchfork in 2019 for a noise rock album no matter how good it is.

What sucks is that they gave a box set with all of Gong’s best albums a 7.7 and a fairly dismissive STE review.

I know it's such a small thing, but there still not being just a clearly defined "at 8.0, it's BNM" delineation and it instead being this weird "it can be 8.0-8.4 but not BNM but sometimes it is but if it's over 8.5, it's definitely BNM" is just odd

lists out from tomorrow

Pimp #1, Blonde #2, Dark Fantasy #3, BEYONCÉ #4, Modern Vampires #5 is my best guess

DAMN. #21. A I A: Dream Loss / Alien Observer #99, Lulu at #199

Dancing On My Own song of the decade

iLoveMakonnen, Run The Jewels 2, any non-Suburbs Arcade Fire, Real Estate, Sun Kil Moon either near the very bottom of both lists or scrubbed from history entirely

Yeezus out the top 20, causing a coalition of Kanye To The regulars, Needle Drop subscribers and Redditers to rise up and ransack Brookyln

Burn Your Fire For No Witness to 'do a Milk Eyed Mender' and be surprisingly high. like 22 or something

Number of references to the TV show "Girls" in the blurbs: 5-10. Number of appearances by the jangle duo "Girls": 1 or 2 tops

can't believe pitchfork tranched John Mayer

This review says the album came out a week after 9/11, but Wikipedia states it came out in June of that year. Who to believe?

While I was aware of John Mayer in 2001, I couldn't tell you whether it was the summer or fall of that year I first heard "No Such Thing".

I haven't seen an album ranked 8.3 or higher not be called BNM, if it was a new release. I've seen a small handful of 8.2s with the designation, I think but I generally think of 8.3 as the dividing line.

I wouldn't be surprised to see more than one angel olsen record in the top 100, but I highly doubt they'd put both burn your fire for no witness + my woman in the top 25

trying to remember who they did the 8.2 thing to ... i think it was a single band/person several times lol
i came across the reviews recently

Wavves' Wavvves was a rare instance of an 8.1 BNM (https://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/12783-wavvves/). they must've rly wanted to boost that one.
