It's just hard to see how this one got singled out by large-ish group of music writers. I can see how some people might really appreciate it, but you'd think that would be balanced out by a large pool of other small label stuff that other writers like.

it’s not hard to see at all. sherburne got stoked on jolly discs and reviewed a couple things and pushed for RAPs inclusion on this list. same thing happened with regelbau a couple years ago

regardless of your thoughts on the music on RAP it’s the least corporate/“archetypal p4k” release on this list

The Big Thief records are my #1-2 of the year and seem pretty well loved in general.

I will fully admit to just absolutely 100% not getting the Lana love but I still feel like the hagiography for this record (and now often times post hoc her entire career) as just about the most eye rolling shit.

Future generations will marvel that one album contained “Venice Bitch” and “Mariners Apartment Complex” and “hope is a dangerous thing for a woman like me to have - but i have it.” And they will scoff in disbelief that Lana Del Rey was once treated as anything but the poet laureate of a world on fire.

I don't know much about Halsey as an overall person/artist but I'm gonna go out on a limb and say she kinda sounds like a dummy if she thinks wishing for an office to collapse in on itself is on par with her music not getting promo-friendly BS stickers of approval from a publication that holds little to no relevance these days.
