it’s not hard to see at all. sherburne got stoked on jolly discs and reviewed a couple things and pushed for RAPs inclusion on this list. same thing happened with regelbau a couple years ago

regardless of your thoughts on the music on RAP it’s the least corporate/“archetypal p4k” release on this list

they’re the new token relevant guitar band
I look at bluegrass music as this sort of glowing ball. The point is to relax the technique around the glowing ball of feeling.

Now that I've actually seen the whole list, I apologize for dog-piling on RAP.

So much shit I forgot even came out this year.

The Big Thief records are my #1-2 of the year and seem pretty well loved in general.

I will fully admit to just absolutely 100% not getting the Lana love but I still feel like the hagiography for this record (and now often times post hoc her entire career) as just about the most eye rolling shit.

Future generations will marvel that one album contained “Venice Bitch” and “Mariners Apartment Complex” and “hope is a dangerous thing for a woman like me to have - but i have it.” And they will scoff in disbelief that Lana Del Rey was once treated as anything but the poet laureate of a world on fire.

I like this album (and p much all of the jolly discs stuff)

wouldn’t be in my top 50, but it’s nice to see it getting a shout out

edit: bingo said it all much better than me. thx bingo <3

Today's Enema of the State review says Dookie started the debate about selling out and places the onus squarely on pop punk... Uh...

Fuck I’m a bit pissed off at myself for not taking the time to consider how/if the artists in compilations like these are compensated

Postby it's the suspense that gets me » Sun Jan 19, 2020 2:16 am

wasn't there some archival release from a few years ago that was like, a haitian funeral repackaged for $$$ filled with prominent sounds of people crying etc.

ah here we go

Death in Haiti: Funeral Brass Bands & Sounds from Port au Prince
by Félix Blume

15 dead, 15 funerals, 16 funeral processions, 1 procession with no dead, 5 churches, 1 cemetery, 1 wake.
15 hours of recorded sounds are condensed into a vivid sound portrait depicting the way funerals and burials are lived in the Caribbean island of Haiti. Recorded in Port au Prince by sound artist Félix Blume in early December 2016, Death in Haiti plunges the listener into a world of pain, loss and solemn celebration as each funeral comprises of its own live jazz band as well as a plethora of characters like the joker (le blaguer) who cracks jokes and tales about the recently deceased.
A beautiful document of a thriving tradition, a counterpart or updated version of those famous Dirge Jazz records such as the New Orleans’ Eureka Brass Band on Folkways.

I don't know much about Halsey as an overall person/artist but I'm gonna go out on a limb and say she kinda sounds like a dummy if she thinks wishing for an office to collapse in on itself is on par with her music not getting promo-friendly BS stickers of approval from a publication that holds little to no relevance these days.
