Geoff, who are the CTI artists you appreciate?

I realize it's not your wheelhouse, but some of those people have inarguable talent, and you must like some combinations of them.

curious of your thoughts.

yes I'm not a fan of the label at all.

Saying that I can 'stand' these jazz albums on CTI

Freddie Hubbard - Red Clay
Freddie Hubbard - First Light (minus string sections)
George Benson - Beyond the Blue Horizon
Bill Evans ‎– Montreux II

This was a surprisingly enjoyable nighttime listen

I got a ticket already regardless, going with my dad (we went last year because sun ra arkestra and anthony braxton were gonna be there but were totally floored by all these artists we'd never heard of)

I don't really know much about these besides alice coltrane stuff, what do you recommend I give a good listen to it before the actual festival?

Ive been listening to this show on the Vancouver-based internet radio called No Fun Radio, and it's seriously the best (i.e. most aligned with what I like) collection of jazz I've come across!

I don't know if anyone else will be into it, but it's called Infinite Sound and I think it's mainly 60s and 70s

Last episode:
Jorge Lopez Ruiz 5 - Todo Fluye
Batsumi - Itumeleng
Sphere - Inside Ourselves
Art Ensemble Of Chicago - Proverbes (I)
Nat Birchall - Man From Varasani
Sabu Martinez - Afro Temple
Brother Ah - Hanifah
Kiyoshi Sugimoto - Babylonia Wind
Chet Baker - Summertime

note: my knowledge of jazz is zilch

That lineup looks great Waldo!

I'm not sure what that quartet with Oliver Lake is like, but I dig his stuff.

After taking stock of my Jazz collection, it seems that I don't really have anything BEFORE 1955 and AFTER 1977. Is all 80's/90's jazz... terrible? Why does every modern jazz album sound so clean and awful?

I am slowly warming to Kamasi Washington, but what else is out there in this vein right now?

I saw her when she played here in London and it was legit one of the best shows of my life. The whole band was so good.

I got her to sign my copy!
