it’s also the source of the river ness, which has its mouth at inverness (which literally means mouth of the ness.)

Thought it was "dough eyed," until yesterday. Really believed we were equating wide and innocent looking eyes to small, wet lumps of dough.

Just looked up the etymology of “doff,” like to doff your cap, and it’s a contraction of “do off”

Then I realized what the opposite is

i used to know the ceiling fan thing as a kid but never remembered it until now, and i just moved into a new place with no central air

this is such a huge difference, bat house has probably literally saved me a bunch of money on electric bills from running the a/c units

snowflake, lock it in. final answer.

to read it the other way is like a life jacket with a pictogram of a drowning person on it.

i didn't realise this myself but turns out in "clutching at straws" the straws refer to a drowning person trying to hold on to anything they can... such as weak little straws

I’ve somehow never thought about the fact that the buffalo on the Bills helmet is named after the city, and the Bills is a weird name that has nothing to do with the animal on their helmet. I kinda always thought Bills were a type of Buffalo, or something. I never really thought about it.

I know German but not exactly fluent so I guess it was just that I knew the word komisch already when I first encountered the term for the music but had never seen the word kosmisch before and my brain never saw the s. Komisch as the name makes sense kinda, although not nearly as much as kosmisch
