it's kind of like police departments and sheriff's offices say these things in press conference on purpose, huh? like it's fully their intent to be inflammatory and make people hate cops because in spite of cops constantly whining about being picked on, bullied, and hated...they thrive on it. it's a pattern at this point. it's not an accident. they want a select group iof society to hate them more so they can justify more violence and so supporters of police will be even more accepting of said violence.

100% the case. and they sex worker's mugshots will be in the paper, but never their customers. they do online/massage parlor stings here and the women's mugshots always hit the local news, tears in their eyes, but you never see a single one of the men who pays to fuck them. weird!

Yes. This violence is a convergence of racialized misogyny and anti-Asian sentiment fueled by Sinophobia that as usual victimizes lower income Asians. And that entire cop press conference will shift the public discourse away from everything except the misogyny. They will probably turn it into some need for greater funding for vice control units like the one that killed Yang Song in NYC.
I can't get over how uncritically every major news outlet is parroting the "sexual addiction" thing like it's a quasi-valid reason to murder eight people as opposed to just, like, putting a pornhub blocker on your browser.
Also god damn, my mom goes to Atlanta all the time because the Korean community is so much bigger there that they can sustain all the specialized businesses she wants to visit. One time she told me that it's safer there because there's more Asian people and welp no it turns out nowhere is safe.

yeah, this week the fbi also dropped their report on the nashville bomber and basically said he believed in crazy conspiracies at that his motivation wasn't at all political but then proceeded to give zero examples of any of his conspiracy theories and its like, half this country is running on conspiracy theories as information for political purposes, can't really just handwave "conspiracy" anymore, but here we are.
i wish the newsmedia was more critical of supposed authority sources doing press releases.
fwiw korean-language outlets are reporting that the shooter yelled "kill all asians," though that's not confirmed (i think)
i think it can be true that he was motivated both by racial hatred as well as misogyny against sex workers. seems like not a coincidence that he would hit 3 different asian-owned spas. also kind of interesting to me that people don't even really talk about gun control anymore. at least in the short term, that would do the most to stop things like this from happening imo
love to live in america, a powder keg where racism, misogyny, and easy access to guns collide...

yeah... it's really insane. every major news outlet blasted that out as a push notification too

clarification on the first point
still doesn't mean it's not true (as they specify later in the thread). need to wait for more confirmations...

A lot of the higher profile attacks that have occurred have been in San Francisco and NYC. Places with bigger Asian populations aren't safer, they just invite the type of racists that see concentrations of Asians as an "invasion" that needs to be eliminated.

Me and some other AAPI coworkers were talking about this yesterday (in SF) and we were talking about how really nowhere is safe. Small populations still have enormous amount of hate crimes that go unreported as well.
we dont know the motive, but we do know a specific group of people is grieving. who are those people? we dont know, we will have to wait to find out the motive first.
i hate to be "that guy" but if trump tweeted that exact same thing it would've been a half day news cycle about how trump refuses to acknowledge the existence of racism.
"we will never know the motives" is a racist right wing meme that gets raised whenever politicians don't immediately make ideological pronouncements about certain crimes. In general I think it's fine to make measured statements in the immediate aftermath of mass shootings and other horrific events if you're a public figure.
