I went to art school 5 miles away. I don't think that's fair to say ''nothing ever happens like this''. There are teens that have lost their way in the county, they do hard drugs and pills because they are wealthy suburb kids. Once you start branching out into Saugus and Val Verde, there is more rural folk with meth problems. It goes from cookie cutter suburbs to strange desert people pretty quickly in the area. Not that it's related to the shooting, but weirdos can spawn out of the woodwork anywhere. I think its just gonna be expected that every school campus is going to go through a gunmen/ active shooter event or scenario. Even at my school there was talk of a student that was expelled for having weapons in his dorm, or the time a gunmen from a robbery was on the loose and the school was on lockdown.
Maybe i'm desensitized too much these days.

yup, I grew up in Fairfield County CT where up until December 2012 nothing much would happen. teens are abusing substances in every single county across the country, it's just the specific type of substance abuse that varies depending on economic access.
my mom works in the public school system back home but is retiring next year so I'm excited for her to no longer be in that environment given how things are. that being said, CT is definitely at the forefront of securing schools, not that long after Newtown it became policy for all schools to be locked during the school day, it obviously doesn't eliminate the threat of a student shooter but it does at least prevent Adam Lanza types from getting in easily. one drawback is that once I started going to college I liked surprising my mom in her office first thing whenever I visited home, and now it's impossible or a total pain in the ass to do that. gonna explain this to Chris Murphy so he'll pressure state gov to unlock the schools, enabling me to begin my viral "surprise mom at work" youtube channel

i found my old roommate's reddit account recently. we were good friends until we had this falling out, and now he's a huge gun night. it took him from a pretty leftwing guy to staunch right wing supporter. and his posts are fucking maddening, full of shit like this

What became of her? She lived, as she liked to say, off the kindness of gentlemen. I assume she’s dead.
