I did weights barbells (StrongLifts and cycling through other regiments) at the gym for years pre covid.

Bands seem like a way to do splits again and simulate using machines or whatever

let's say you want a work out plan that involves high reps on a low weight

let's also say that every outlet in your country seems to be out of almost every size and all you can find is 2KG

do you buy it? (this may be an insanely dumb question I've never really lifted before)

pushups is always the answer

if you really want to get something get a kettlebell and/or two 10 to 20 pound weights

So I don't even need to spend money on my plan? Sweet

not that I'm really even sure what my plan is but I just bought a jogging kit and have an exercise bike in my room and maybe some abs would be cool too (already got the mostly clean diet in place)

ah, cool

what if my original question had been about a 4kg kettlebell instead of a 2kg dumbbell :D

15/20/25 lbs is probably where you want to start with a kb even if total newb, anything less won't do much. later when get stronger can resell and buy heavier, kbs have great resale value unless you get those cheap vinyl ones. could also use it for single arm movements once stronger and get a second one of the same weight to do doubles

everyone should own a kb, really two. i somehow have 8 now because another closing crossfit gym near me was selling super cheap

had a funny moment today

I had to run some errands in the neighborhood (capitol hill in d.c.) and also wanted to check out the militarization so figured a bike ride would be fun. there's like 100 soldiers with auto rifles in my park across the street right now! anyway I decided I wanted some extra exercise so I wore my ruck pack with the 30lb weight in it. by the way, this set-up that I described above is killer. love the backpack, love how neatly the plate slides in. I wear it when I'm doing dishes or puttering around the house. sometimes I'll just randomly walk up and down my staircase 10 times and be pleased with that little extra thing. I haven't walked the dog without it in a week

anyway, I was biking down 2nd street adjacent to the supreme court. and this group of full on military soldiers with automatic rifles waved me over and told me to give them my pack. which was def weird but I was stoned and innocent and white so who cares. so with all of my subtle effort, I took it off, trying hard not to reveal anything unusual or heavy about it. handed it to one of the guys and he was so surprised he dropped it on his foot. the whole group were all like, WHOA and put hands on rifles (not pointed anywhere near me though) and I think they suspected it was a bomb or something. anyway, once I showed them what it was, they were all super cool and impressed and I ended up talking for ten minutes about exercise routines and we all parted as bros

Question for those who track calories/macros.

I use MyFitnessPal and when I set up my profile it asked about my activity-level, presumably to factor into my daily calorie goal. However, it is also taking the estimated calories burned from my Apple Watch and adding that back in to my daily calorie goal, pushing me up to around 3,200/day.

I have enough trouble eating 2,600 calories/day. I don’t want to start forcing myself to eat even more.

FYI, I’m 5’10” and 168lbs so I’m not really looking change my weight either direction. Just aiming to put on more muscle and drop my body fat %.

Guess there isn’t really a question in there. The only reason I am tracking my calories/macros is to make sure I am eating enough and coming reasonably close to hitting my macro goals, which I usually fail. Mainly with carbs.

Good carbs aren’t so great.

Love eating a giant mountain of healthy food for dinner and it adds up to 490 calories.

Really wish I could afford even a cheapo gym membership right now. I’ve leaned out a fair bit since having to move back home (having no access to junk food or delivery is a net positive, obvs) and do some body weight stuff most nights, so I definitely look slimmer now than in many years but I want to work on having some muscle :(
