ugh. Supposed to drive to the New tomorrow but I have to be back on Friday and thunderstorms are forecast for Thursday. I don't think I can justify an 8-hour drive for one day at the crag

Yes, everything is right in the climbing world again!!!! Caldwell and Honnold absolutely smashing Gobright's Nose record. Prediction: with Reel Rock there in the Valley and a real chance for Honnold to put Gobright away for good, I bet they go for a few more laps in the next couple weeks and go sub 2 hours! Really enjoying this Honnold - Gobright rivalry. We need more real feuds in climbing that are not just privileged white guys being jerks (re Joe Kinder).

That's nice to hear, especially in light of the recent tragic news from Yosemite

it's been pretty brutal to read the reports trickling in of the Freeblast fall. Lotta introspection from big timers on the supertopo thread.

This is pretty hard to read https://www.climbing.com/news/eye-witnesses-recount-tragic-accident-on-el-caps-freeblast/

The cut rope at least makes some sense to how they fell all the way to the ground.

What is everyones local crag? I'm in PA and the local spots aren't exactly going to be on the cover of a magazine but I'm happy they're in the arew. Better than nothing

anybody here climb at birdsboro in PA? it's slowly becoming my go to spot cause it's the closest sport crag around me. It's an old quarry and super chossy with lots of glue on olds and the rock is glossy as all hell, but there's some fun stuff. very chill environment and locals too. surprisingly climbable in the summer when you've got shade

https://soundcloud.com/american-alpine-journal/alex-honnold-and-tommy-caldwell-on-the-nose

pretty fascinating podcast on the nose record.

my favorite moment was alex dismissing speed climbing as dangerous because it isn't free soloing (i mean he isn't wrong, but its a dumb argument to make). then alex immediatly following that up with saying when tommy had slow splits (glad to hear him say this, it was always clear tommy was the weak link, and i still want to see the Adam Ondra - Alex team up even if alex says he is done), alex would phone the thing in and start borrowing gear off of aid climbers so he could protect sections (which negates the whole everything is calculated and not actually that dangerous argument he just tried to make).

also glad they threw some shade at Brad G and his sketchy as hell style of climbing.

There have been so many new gyms opening up in my area and it has created such delicious drama. Especially when it spills over to instagram, because as far as I can see climbers are uniformly tacky as hell online
