online climbing culture is so, so dumb. instagram really ruined things. i troll people on their bullshit as often as i can, but sometimes that crosses into me being tacky as hell too.

The gym I used to go to now has everyone schedule when they can come in and climb, instead of whenever when I used to go, I would hate that
good for the ppl that own the gym tho, they are making tons of money and have built two more gyms because of it
I miss climbing, but would def hate how crowded it probably is all the time

Chon Jongwon won gold in the Asian Games for climbing

As I understand it that means he's exempt from military conscription! Woo hooo

I've just been an off-and-on gym boulderer for 3 years. Finally did some indoor top-rope today and this weekend am heading outside for more roped climbing. Yahoo

Anyone else been watching the world championships? Seeing janja win bouldering after getting second in ropes (by a 7 second double count back) was so cool. She has got to be the heavy favorite for 2020 Olympic gold.

I'm going to the Adirondacks and meeting some friends there this weekend
I think we are mostly going to boulder at nine corner lake

I'm psyched. Recently moved to a new city and it's slow going meeting other climbers. It'll be nice to see my hometown friends in a new place

So good

Glad his mom spoke in it.

Didn't seem overly dramatic or hammed up. I like how he mentioned his thoughts about depression, happiness, contentment and being driven but the film didn't dwell on it, at all. I also liked how it didn't project any conclusions from the MRI results.

Glad it didn't hammer the Yosemite climbing history

Glad he backed out and waited like 6 months to try again. Good lesson right there

Glad he bought a house and didn't glorify van life like a Patagonia catalog

I thought the amount of time spent covering the actual climb was perfect

Being single in my mid-30s and not dated in a long while, and spent month+ long spurts living in my car in mountain towns, I really appreciated how big a theme his bachelorhood was.

I think it respected the sport well. Not like yeah! gnarly! sick! rad! . Which I wish the travis rice snowboard films had been better at (and even the Jones ones to some extent)

Love how it showed that only his friends were involved in the project. Not some production crew he didn't know that national geographic sent him

I was opposed to a climbing film going out to mass audiences and I don't glorify solo'ing one single bit, but I'm glad I saw this. A great movie. You should see it, I think it's gonna be monumental both as an athletic (mental?) achievement and as a film. Right place, right time, right people kinda thing.

Anyone have experience buying shoes with split sizes? Evolv is the only brand offering it online from what I can see and it's just hella lame it costs an extra $30. I figure local shops and used are prob my best options, but figured I'd throw this out into the void

Bishop then New Mexico (Roy and Ortegas), maybe a stopover in Hueco, then Red Rocks. Depending on weather, might head to Yosemite for a bit. And if I am feeling fit I will probably spend some time around SoCal trying to finish up projects that have eluded me.

So my hometown local sport crag is pretty small and has a small community that organizes trail days, clean up, bolting funds, etc. It also has a Facebook group where people take things way too seriously and and have such petty arguments about safe technique. often it's old trad dudes coming out of the woodwork but there are like maybe two trad lines and they are shit, the rock is choss. The only section worth a damn is in great condition with frequent upkeep. The only issue is graffiti and police using the place for target practice and too much damn garbage

Fucking hell
