I wish that was coming somewhere near me. I thought for sure they'd schedule a Bloomington, IN show.

I went to the Philly show last night, it was pretty great. 1/2 the set was from Didn't It Rain and Mag Elec co which made me happy. His widow was there who seemed like the nicest person and also the author of the book was there who did some readings inbetween songs. Was worth it just to hear the pedal steel player although the whole band sounded great. Good time all around but also a little sad and weird without Jason's vocals/presence.

Also all of Molina's albums on vinyl were $15 a piece at the merch table. Picked up MEC and an MEC shirt. It's definitely worth going to if you're thinking about it.

I gave that DC set a listen.

It was like this odd cognitive dissonance. It made me kind of angry. Like who are you, kid with the bowl cut, trying to sing these songs?

I love the intent but no one's going to be able to do the songs justice.

i think we should change this thread title to a general appreciation thread. i was driving back from vacation on monday and i listened to the didnt it rain demos for the first time. this track in particular:

just blew me away. that guitar sound is mesmerizing, the extra lyrics etc. didn't it rain has to be his best album. i love MEC just fine, but that early era molina is special and didnt it rain seems like the moment he hit this fugue state, where the words and music just pours out of him onto the record. he dips and frantic energy but keeps the earnest spirit.

Secretly Canadian just announced its plans to release another piece of the late singer-songwriter Jason Molina’s music, this time in the form of a 7” titled The Black Sabbath Covers. The 7” will include “Solitude” from Masters of Reality and “Snowblind” from Vol. 4

Yeah Ghost Tropic and especially Didn't It Rain sound like nothing else, he tapped into something special with those. Didn't It Rain is one of my all time favorite album's for sure.

Didn't It Rain actually feels like a cousin to Laughing Stock to me, more than anything.

I've had Lioness in my head all day and night for 4 days now.
I'm semi consciously singing and humming it all day, and lie awake during the night with the song playing in my head.
RIP JM and all, but this is getting unnerving.
