trying to remember a solo molina recording. I think the setlist was heavy on pyramid and sojourner tracks. division, bowery, leave the city, dark don't hide, etc. minimal crowd banter. any idea?

that sounded pretty cool, groth's guitar rips for sure, and strand of oak's guy's voice is pretty good. i'm not sure how i feel about the project name, but they're the ones who were close to jason so i don't know.

i love that groth is a librarian

sometimes i imagine i'm back at my old job doing facilities stuff for a library, and groth sends in a request for assistance and then i have to go help him figure out why his window won't latch correctly or whatever and pretend like his guitar playing isn't a huge part of some of the more emotional periods of my life

It's a little cheaper if you go with Bandcamp over SC, but this still winds up being $50 for the non-bundle version.

Didn't It Rain reissue unbundled was/is $20. Here we go.

Sojourner ended up as the most complete representation of Jason’s expansive world that rewards repeat listens. At some point we’ll have to put it out on vinyl. Maybe there will be room for the chicken bone.

was feeling shitty so came home and put magnolia electric co on and made me feel better. nice to see this thread too.

can anyone point me in the direction of molina's influences? i've never gone down that road, lots of artists who are similar, but i've never read up on who he was into..

I feel like he was all over the place. That dude loved everything from Sabbath to Codeine.

So what do you think your influences were growing up?

I listened to a lot of radio, a lot of AM radio. So whatever would have been on the radio in the '70s I listened to.

Anything that stood out?

No, I mean I listened to like, I remember I really liked '50s, early '60s music. Early rock 'n' roll, I still love that music, but my parents had a great record collection and from the time I was just a little kid I would raid that collection and listen to the things that stand out to this day, the things I still listen to are like Patti Smith, Roxy Music, Brian Eno, you know, they had a really diverse collection -- things like that.

Of course I will buy this, but I’ll probably keep the CD box, too. Sojourner might be my favorite thing he released under the Magnolia Electric Co. name, including the s/t.
