Somehow within a span of a month I went back to being psyched for this just because of how much grimmer the world seems. Crazy month. One of the worst of our lives.

You have to buy pretty much everything. Magic, gambits, special moves (technicks), everything. You buy it and then get the license to use it and then you can use it. It's an odd system to be sure.

Yea, 15 hours in and it is finally starting to feel like a FF game. Just downed the Elder Wyrm and enjoyed that fight a lot - having to position my healer outside of the sporefall cone, popping esuna to keep my tank viable, etc. Plot is still Phantom Menace tier nonsense, but I like Balthier talking shit to everyone. Having the gambits locked behind money is dumb but w/e this game is all about the grind.

the star wars prequel plot is easily the worst part of ff12, but it's really fun to play. always wish they didn't cave and switch the games focus away from ashe.
i enjoyed balthier more when the game came out but he grates on me considerably more now that every piece of nerd entertainment is written like a joss whedon character.

ok so
over the course of the game cloud and the party see mysterious grey figures who are revealed to be time travel ghosts who intervene in the timeline to keep events in line with destiny. the end of the game reveals there are two sephiroths: the present one and a time traveling one from after advent children who went traveled to the past like old biff to help present sephiroth change the events of ff7 in his favor. at the end of the game it's also revealed that through time travel meddling zack survived crisis core. the party becomes aware of this and decides to use the same power to REMAKE events to save the world (thus making the FF7 REMAKE title an actual plot relevant thing). the final battle with sephiroth is a complete mess of anime bullshit with cloud, tifa and aerith literally flying around and dodging buildings being thrown at them. also, biggs and wedge both live.Toggle Spoilerhere's a more detailed writeup with clips

i have no idea why i'm finding reading this so upsetting given that i even have fondness for kingdom hearts and advent children nomura bullshit, and i thought the idea of making a 1:1 remake was always going to be doomed to failure... but here we are.Toggle Spoiler

this game is gonna be so sick
More importantly, characters that were once little more than names with barely so much as a personality have now become fully fleshed-out people. Avalanche member Jessie, in particular, has gone from someone I barely remembered to one of the most iconic characters in the story.

I didn't read all the spoilers but based on the lil I saw, Nomura Nomura'd it all up.
I don't mind waiting, the next one won't be out for four years anyways.
