Oh. Whoops.

This all felt like a different ending. I'll have to go back and look. My world map feels incomplete.

I have a separate save just before that final dungeon

Laguna (and Irvine) are both named after the cities. No, really. One of the FF brain trust guys really enjoyed his Orange County vacation, apparently.

i really wish that there were markers indicating which things in the environment were interactable in 8 like there are in 7

my only beef with the game at the moment is that it can be sometimes difficult attempting to interact with the environments. i'm still nearing the end of disc 1 because i found navigating deling city to be much more difficult than i'd like it to be.

the ending cutscene in ff8 is amazing but it has the worst last dungeon out of any of these games maybe iirc and theyre low points of all the ps1 games.

if youve made it to that point maybe just look up the ending

It’s a bummer because the aesthetic/concept/music are up there as one of the best in the series.

I can't help but feel like the Renzokuken is much harder to time. Obviously there's no rumble feedback but it seems like the trigger prompts aren't in sync with the battle animation.

Yeah the frame rate of the battle menus has been cut in half apparently which introduces extra input lag.

god i was feeling similar but could not quite put my finger on it

the bad parts about this are so inexplicably stupid but everything is still worth it for me for a fast forward option that doesn't fuck with the in game music.

Is this game the new canon for the FF7 universe? I don't want to believe the President of Shinra wouldn't come down to talk to AVALANCHE at the reactor

In FF7, was there a different spot where you get the Odin materia? Cause for this playthrough, I just looked up the combination lock in Nibelheim to fight the Numbers boss and get Odin. However, I'm pretty sure young me wouldn't have figured out that combination but I do remember getting the Odin materia at some point.

Anyway, the map in this really sucks cause its such low resolution that I can't see the town dots and wandering around and getting random encounters every 2 minutes is really boring. Retro gaming!

there's lots of new gameplay footage today
and it looks incredible
classic mode for traditional ATB style battles, and the enemies' HP and stuff adjusts depending on mode since there are fewer/more turns
