I'm in the final dungeon now - I really love this section of the game. It's probably my favourite FF final dungeon. But like you, I wish it wasn't a point of no return.

FF8 is such an odd game. It's full of great ideas and moments that never quite cohere in a satisfying way. Still enjoyed replaying it though. I have no idea how you would complete some of these side-quests or obtain some of the GFs without a guide tho

Finished FFX last night. Really liked the ending, and Tidus saying goodbye to Yuna was pretty affecting. My battle against Jecht Sin was an oh well. I used up all my Overdrives and Aeon's were all dead and I still had about 52,000 hp left on him, so i was pretty resigned to losing and just trying again. As a last resort, I summoned Yojimbo and gave him the rest of the money (about 130,000) and yeah, he pulled out the Zumpano and I won. Oh well. It's a victory.

Started FF12 and this will be the first time I've ever played it. Looking forward to it.

i have posted this hot take several times but i honestly don't know what people see in the story for 12

it's like they were trying to write a political thriller but just ended up turning on CSPAN

I've definitely seen people holding up the story in 12 as one of its strengths, which I don't get at all.
The story started to feel kind of incomprehensible to me, but that may be because it was so boring I started zoning out during the cutscenes. Gameplay rules, though.

lol this is pretty much me as well. i feel like the party characters are interesting but the npc’s are maybe the most boring of any ff. i don’t really even remember the main antagonists

c-span might be overly generous re: 12
hearing these stupid words said outloud is embarrassing

it’s a fine game thanks to the gambit and job system and speed up option but man, the “Shakespearean” stuff is abysmal, there’s zero character development, and I have no idea what the point of the plot is

Honestly stunned this gets praised as much as it does

I'm at the point where I just found Ashe and now crossing this really large desert.

I've seen reviews of the story describing it as Game of Thrones like, and yeah, it's pretty overwrought and throws as many places and names at you as it can and expects you to remember them. I think this is the first game where I was given the choice to use the Japanese voices and at least I have that.

All that being said, I'm enjoying the game. The environments are cool so far, and Vaan isn't annoying as a main character goes. The combat system is fun and once I get more gambits, I'm sure there's some interesting programming to be done.

For a game that I put so much time into I can't remember the plot or any of the characters except for the rabbit woman and the guy she pals around with.

It's definitely got some Star Wars prequels vibes to it.

Prequels is a good comparison yeah
Really enjoying the hunts and the gambit system in general. It’s weird how much this game predated open world games and fast travel. Just like with X, I just wish I could not have any vocals. Kinda worried about ff7R when it comes to hearing all this shit instead of reading it

1) are the Switch versions of 10/12 the way to go when I get around to those? Or are there any downsides to the Switch version specifically? Probably would pick that over ps4 just for the added portability. (tangent but my friend was complaining about the lack of analog controls in the ff8 remaster. i already have the psn version of this though so i will probably just stick with that)

2) do ppl like any of the orchestral or piano arrangement soundtracks? feel like i could use more Uematsu in my life but sometimes just listening to the midi stuff can be a little much after a little while
