twitch.tv/rpglimitbreak

i guess it's 2/3 over but they're doing a relay race of every mainline SP ff. they're like 2 full days in already, running thru ffix which is a 9+ hour run.

have plans but watching the replay of this during the week is going to be insanely fun

Finally beat 7 for the first time... only took me 23 years! ( 3x speed on switch is a godsend)

Onto the remake.. the guitar shredding in chapter 4 is absolutely incredible ... surprisingly loving the goofy voice acting .

fizzled out on the remake, i think knowing it’s incomplete is putting me off. might wait for the other chapters or just quit on this series. glad people like it but i think i’m out of the demographic for final fantasy at this point; i thought 15 was really bad, too.

really hate the action battle systems they keep coming up with, i don’t know what i’m supposed to get out of them. specially frustrating because i thought octopath traveler had one of my favorite battle systems so i know they can still crank out sick turn based play, but they keep going for this wonky chaotic action shiz

yeah I love FFXV a lot and absolutely hated every second of combat in it. XIII/XIII-2 are magical though

really love ffxiii’s battle system. i 100% beat that game and i couldn’t tell you what it’s about/don’t care but the end game boss hunts were a blast. layers of strategy. setting up my formations and swapping constantly between them while managing individual fighters etc.

ff ain't going back to turnbased

but yeah it's been something they struggle with. xv's battle system was atrocious, objectively, though i found it extremely dumb fun to just warp everywhere and crush shit ('extremely dumb fun' is how i think of 15 in general but everyone itt knows how i feel at this point)

i thoroughly enjoyed 7r's battle system. it was flawed but there's a There there. it'd be nice to see them continue to tweak it for the rest of the games in the series and/or 16

Stuck on one of the final aeon/boss in ffx. I missed a couple of optional temples to pick up Aeons and now that’s catching up to me.

xv is the only ff game i've played where i basically hated it. gave up 5 hours in on my recent attempt at it and will never touch it again. i'll never bother with 7r either just because of the comparisons

i don't like viii at all either but can kinda see why people enjoy that one

X is the best turn-based combat right? very bold move to completely ignore the ATB after like 6? straight games with it, but the deliberate pacing of those fights felt really tactical in a way the other games often didn't. plus it makes grinding a joke.

X has superb combat yeah
The weapon upgrading system is kinda whack though. I liked skill points in 7r

I’m still on a high from 7r’s ending

the thing in X where if you mouse over a character with a Haste spell and the action queue updates to show how the spell will allow them to attack before the enemy before you cast it....... chef's kiss

How is ix combat? I agree x’s combat is great turned based. I’ve been thinking about playing zodiac age as well but I’m currently playing xenoblade de and I’m not sure I can handle two open worlds at once.

On a recent replay of X, fighting Evrae on your ship was so fun. It really felt like I had to plan out my attacks and not just button mash the attack button

Still enjoying 7r, but I think cloud shimmies through narrow spaces 600 times per chapter , that trend needs to die

ix combat is...a little slow. the 'remasters' have a speed up feature but for whatever reason i find it kind of a pain to use

zodiac age battle system is pretty cool and the speed up feature on it rocks. it's not really a true open world either, it's basically just a series of very large 'halls' connected to each other. but it is pretty huge

Started a new file in VI the other day and I realized I have spent too much time away from classic JRPGs. The random encounter rate seems absolutely insane.

Yeah that’s actually what I’m doing now. Just got the Magicite from Zozo so I’m killing two birds with one stone by leveling on the Veldt.

Not to be too much of a downer but I just couldn’t get into 15. I still have fond memories of playing it because I just put it on in the background while I watched all 6 seasons of The Sopranos.

nearing the end-ish of ff6, or at least seems like it. i'm in the dark world and getting the gang back together. just got mog. i'm still digging this but i feel like i always want these games to be a tad shorter or something. maybe because the in-the-moment battle stuff isn't as fun to me as action stuff
