Let's talk Aguachile Alley
by AdamThomas » Wed Dec 16, 2009 5:48 pm
After deliberating and reading countless reviews and looking at countless comparisons between the 7d and 5d Mark II, I went to B&H and ordered the 5d Mark II, simply for the fact that it takes better pictures. Even though it costs $1000 more, it means that every picture would be better, if only a little bit. The extra 2 or 3 stops of light (better high iso performance) was a huge decider. And, apparently, the guy said that if I had any second thoughts, BH has a return policy that's good till January 10th with no re-stocking fee, so I jumped.
Yesssss:

oh, awesome...thanks.
Do you like smugmug? I have flickr and like it but use it as a dump of sorts (I have 5,000 pics up there). I was looking for another service for my favorites in different categories.

I like smugmug a whole lot. A lot cleaner interface than flickr, can view all photos at original size, etc etc. I don't care about the social networking aspect, so interface is paramount for me.

So I just downloaded 2.0.4 for the 5d Mark II to shoot video and shot a little and it looks great.
Just realizing now how much more money I have to spend if I really want to get into it - a steadicam, microphone, etc...
Thoughts? Similar experiences?

i have one of these too. I don't have any additional accessories for shooting video (mic etc.), but trying to work with what I have (a telephoto, prime, mid-range zoom) is really, really fun. Staying in focus can be a bitch though.
What's most impressive is shooting in dimly lit areas. Even inside clubs or bars with no flash and this camera just slayyyyyyzzzzz.
Sincerely yours,
Peter Quistgard

Mister E wrote:I just purchased a Kata 467i bag and a Slik Sprint Pro II ball head tripod. Super impressed with the quality and functionality of both.
Bag has a ton of sweet features. Tripod feels super solid for how light/small it is and fits perfectly into the tripod holder thing of the bag. Bag holds all my necessary stuff plus my laptop and wacom tablet super comfortably. Gonna be perfect for my trip.
Ball head is so awesome compared to manipulating 3 different bolts every time you wanna change composition on a shot. Unlock, move, lock. Also it's super compact and manages to balance low weight and solid feel pretty well. So much better then the cheapie plastic jointed thing I had before that broke almost immediately when I took it out in a blizzard.
where you going? I have the slik but I would never carry that around. I'm trying to lighten my load as much as possible because the more I have, the less I will walk around.

Nice.
I'm on a hiatus from any gear acquisition.
My Pentax-A 50mm f/1.2 finally came in last week (bought it in December) and though it was supposedly CLA'd, the rear element is half-covered in fungus. Back it goes. :S
