hey guys, what game should i get off Steam now that i'm single?

- last modern game i played through was Fallout 4

- i'm still playing Diablo III and Portal 2 when i get bored. i liked quake champions and DooM, but i don't think i'm really into FPS these days.

- the last "good" game that i tried to play but i hated was Dishonered

- i really like good physics and graphics but my processor is pushing 4 years old and my gpu is a gtx 1060

Blood and Wine is one of the best expansions, period.

Anyways, +1 to Witcher 3. Also some people here lately have been getting on Path of Exile which is Diablo-ish and free.

its diverged from the uh, math hypnotherapy of the demoscene, to be something that digital artists can use to make cool things without having to study glsl or whatever.

So you start with like 'source nodes' that either a texture or a noise pattern or a parameter from the game... and then link it to a node that does a math operation... and then you got a output node that renders a resulting texture or whatever... The ball is entirely in the court of rapid iteration so that the focus is on the product and fine tuning that ...

i know, i didnt mean to suggest otherwise. it's just working with a materials authoring toolset means as an artist you're doing a lot of shaping and tweaking of your materials procedurally in much the same way you'd shape sounds in audio suite. i think some artists struggle with that process, and i think that's part of what's happening on bloodstained, why there's garish specular highlighting where it probably shouldnt be and all that

working with pretty basic textures frees them from that process

i honestly spent three weeks looking for your post about shaders because i am a freak but couldn't find it so i just wrote my dumb post

is your post in this thread? i couldnt find it... let me read about shaders

witcher 3 is about as good as it gets for coming back to gaming i think. extremely playable by basically anyone and constantly rewarding and beautiful and cool

i got fooled by it's dumb cover art and dismissed it as aaa slop for way too long, it's a truly wonderful thing

im gonna re-dl it and finish it

brittle if you like ancient things get one of the assassin's creed last 2

I picked egyptian flavour

sometimes it all falls away and I realise the emptiness of the ubisoft fetchquest map reveal cycle but the other times it's just real pretty and fun escapism
