also for what it’s worth i think the popular view that “cosmetic-only” microtransactions are somehow more innocuous, or acceptable from a gameplay standpoint, is overdue for a reckoning. cosmetics are not fundamentally distinct from “mechanics”, and the mistaken idea that aesthetics are a subordinate aspect of games compared to ‘gameplay’ does no favors to conversations about microtransactioks, or to audience perceptions of how games work

i agree, which is why i said that paying to level up is like, the least offensive version of asking players for more $ beyond retail
i've been getting really into pestcest too lately. haven't really been able to find much good ant stuff, though. anybody have any links to some good biting vids/pics?

i think the highest post on the ff 14 reddit yesterday was "if endgame is fashion, does that make ff 14 p2w?"

hell yeah

yes i did, thank u for ur apology

i've heard less stories about people giving up their weekly paycheque for cosmetics than to advance in a game. i like the idea of aesthetics (cosmetics) not being subordinate to gameplay, but i dunno, think it's safe to exclude them from the conversation for now as long as all this other shit still exists

I won't even buy a game at full price, let alone give them more ducats after the fact

is assassin's creed origins worth $30?

i've never played an AC game before but this seems to fit my bill of "a dumber witcher 3"

Spider-Man controls so smooth. The game could have no missions and simply be Spider-Man wandering around New York and I’d be happy.

that's exactly what it is, the one coming out next month even more so. Witcher spoiled me and I had to drop it after a dozen hours or so because the Ubisoft Design was wearing on me.

The problem for me is sure i care a whole lot about fashion in games but if the ONLY way to get it is to buy it with real money, and evn worse if its like a whole outfit then where's the fun? to personalize the look means i can pretty much mix and match until i have something i like and like in BDO, if you had me chase after the styles and outfit, i'd sink months just into this. I know, it's what kept me playing DCUO for so long basically (this game had the best gearing system ever for anyone into the fashion side because what your gear looked like and what it actually was on your equipment tab were independent, you looted new gear AND unlocked styles, so tehcncially in end game most people had more or less the same gear but still everybody looked different)
