I’m MR 180 or something at this point and I’m convinced you can’t make a comfy bow build with all your attack/crit skills. Almost all of my melee builds are 100 crit/crit boost with MT and divine blessing 5/health boost 3 with whatever skill the weapon wants (focus/guard/etc) but I’m lucky to fit health boost 2 on a bow build after all the damage skills with silver rathalos bonus and some physique

i don't think you can make comfy bow builds. they can't even fit health boost on current damage sets and don't even have maxed stamina surge. silver rathalos essence + element 6 + ce7 is too constricting. still don't think the weapon needs it and it's hilariously stupid. my friend kept whining to me about how he couldn't quick sheathe nergigante's dive bomb when i was playing HEAVY BOWGUN.

i think the issue with bow is thru campaign you were locked out of MR gear until you could kill namielle+velkhana for ghetto critical element, and then silver rathalos at mr70. this bow friend was also touting about his 'comfy' blast bow build and i plugged it into a calculator and raw bow does about 33% of element bow's potential damage without safi set. a lot of bow users said they just used HR gear and sheer don't-get-touched skill through the campaign

i do run out of slots on flinch free weapons for multiplayer (eg hammer/lance). mostly i just gripe about how i can't run peak performance 3 then play longsword and ruin everyone else's day. i'm about to learn dbs too. i remember not being able to move for a near straight 20 seconds trying to cap a monster while db users (cough pootis) just mashed demon mode. it's gonna be chill. everyone without flinch free is not gonna do shit while i'm around

I’ve always wanted something comfortable so safi weapons are a godsend since you can put masters touch on it and then run gold head/gold chest/teo gloves/teo waist/garuga greaves (obv). Feels great when tempered nerg does like 8% with his dive bomb. The normally useless blast attack on the waist can actually be useful since everyone runs blast variants. I’m missing out on purple but still have like the highest possible attack in comparison to any other weapon. Pretty crazy how irrelevant they made other weapons in almost if not all categories

i don't know what i'll run when safi comes out. probably resentment shit. i've found my peak performance uptime when i play well + a weapon i'm good at to be fairly good. i also play with 10 purple sharpness acid glav weapons over gold rath shit sometimes. most i sac is usually resistance 3 + health boost 3 against an elder. i could use stun resist 3 against luna/teostra or para resist 3 on kirin as well but at some point i just draw the line at 'be better'. i also sort of mildly dislike evade window and earplugs because they alter the parameters of how to be better, whereas health boost/resists/etc usually just give you more opportunities

yeah the safi set plus resentment is wild. being able to completely drop either crit eye or weakness exploit and still have 100% affinity plus a constant 25 attack from resentment is bonkers. probably even better for elemental stuff like sns/bow but i feel like crit element probably wins in the end i haven't really looked into it.

i never had to run earplugs because i mainly use lance/cb/longsword which all turn roars into damage opportunities. i do like it on greatsword still, monsters with long roars like tigrex is a free TCS a lot of the time. had some fun with 5 piece shara for plugs 5/tremor 3 and 100% uptime glider/element mantles when i was messing around right after beating the game.

Thanks jobroodbro for the info. When I'm on the fence about a game, I like to hear people evangelizing it to know if it's for me (I've done this before in the thread for tw:wh 2 and have now tossed too many waking hours into it). I'll more than likely dive into mh after a bit more research about weapons and playstyles.

Double post, so I guess I'll follow up: a few nights ago, I watched on twitch the speed runner in the video brood posted, prompting me to post about the game. Some things seem for me in this (v interested in the multiplayer hunts) but the solo stuff seemed not exactly what I was looking for. I also didn't love the idea of the hammer, but the big cannon seemed fun.

Not to bring this back to MHW but it kind of boggles my mind that after 100 hours I still have a lot to do. I just did the MR69 quest so now I can get the last 4 monsters to show up. That is excepting Rajang, Safi, and everything else coming just to get PC to parity with console. So much GD content.

I've gone back to gunlance for a while, because I am bad and having a shield makes a lot of fights so much easier. Lance is probably a better weapon overall but i'm just real cozy with the boom stick.

I'll echo whats been said about multiplayer, it's not always great but the other night I found a group of randos in the guiding lands and we just rolled Zinogre like 5 times.

my last 50-70 hours have been learning lance and I'll be the last person to tell you it's a great weapon

just learned how to clutch with weapon drawn and the controls are so clunky (requiring like 4 button presses at once). almost as bad as ranged weapons having entirely separate and opposite controls to melee clutch

generally does piss poor damage with low mobility, but it's fine. perfect guarding is satisfactory I guess

more iceborne-y stuff and going back to pootis on how iceborne is less 'hunting': seeing a bit of discussion on how the world engine makes the game easier as a whole. i think the fluidity of controls are good things, as well as more arguable stuff like moving while drinking potions or being able to restock. imo, these can only lead to an improved gameplay experience, but as a result, with healing so trivial to pull off, any factors of 'attrition' are lost (i.e. you no longer run out of healing or have to worry about managing supplies) which also partly exacerbated the flash pod > flying monsters problem. in turn, monsters that do constant flurries of small attacks are not really threatening, so it seems to keep up they need to keep introducing monsters with threatening (/bullshit) one-shots. most people hate lunastra's design but her supernova is a good example. if a player is caught in it, 3 out of 4 average players will die. some weapons need pre-emptive knowledge of when it's coming, and every player needs a hefty amount of experience to be able to mitigate it.

not really sure what the solution is going forward. you could bring back congalanga's debuff that prevents healing, but there would likely just to be an item to clear the debuff. seems like a problem for the next generation of monhun to figure out in how to tackle difficulty more effectively while improving accessibility
