Humans in space suits make monkeys nervous

Postby Althea » Tue Jun 30, 2020 3:03 pm

I am talking about him! I haven't listened to much of his music so I'm not exactly fixing that problem.

It's a source of frustration that the Phish scene has helped enormously in my self realization but also still contains more casual racism, homophobia, and misogyny than I encounter anywhere else.

Guy FORGETTTTT melody

but yea I agree, I don’t mind at all, if I ever did it was because I was worried we wouldn’t get Type-2-a-palooza shows on the regular again... now that we do I can sit back and enjoy this type of show for just how fucking awesome it is

That picture's from the 30th anniversary right? So we'll be nearly 8 years closer to the 60th anniversary by the date of the next currently scheduled show.

Yeah I'm verrry into this. The announcement makes it sound like they only have the 63 minute second set to play? I wonder if there's some shenanigans planned for before/afterwards, not a live barn performance or anything like that, but some kind of surprise. Not that they need to do anything, it sounds like putting this together took some extra work, but they have trained us to expect the unexpected.

Yeah I think it's only the 2nd set. Something extra would of course be amazing, but that recent Trey interview in Relix made it sound fairly definitively like they won't do any live stream performances. Then again:

But Page's comments on the video have my interests thoroughly piqued:
Rene’s use of the fisheye lens, the “negative image” effect, the odd angles and abrupt movements…I’m not sure it all adds up to “avant-garde.” And, at times I wish he would settle down. But, he went for it, and there is no denying that Rene’s camera work brought a certain excitement to the overall shoot.

yeah the first set is ridiculously long. We kept thinking "this must be the closer, right?" but they just kept going and going.

SET 1: Reba, Dogs Stole Things > Taste, Dog Faced Boy, Heavy Things > The Moma Dance, First Tube, I Didn't Know, The Inlaw Josie Wales, Prince Caspian > Golgi Apparatus, You Enjoy Myself

SET 2: Limb By Limb > Also Sprach Zarathustra > Bug > Piper > Driver, Harry Hood > Loving Cup

ENCORE: The Squirming Coil

I also remember the crowd with a loud, audible groan when they went into Bug.

Seriously, people hated on Bug back then.

I like Bug a whole lot! but of course, I like most of the fanbase hated songs. Can't remember if I've told this story ITT but on the second or third night of SPAC 2016, late in set II a guy behind us said "if they start Bug right now you're going to watch me blow my brains out!" Fortunately they'd already played it on the first night.

Man I was living in Kingston in the summer of 2000, if I'd gotten into Phish a year or so sooner I could easily have been at that Toronto show.

i guess it's a good thing that they wanted to ensure they could pay their employees, but i can't help but wonder if a highly successful legacy rock band is really the most deserving applicant for one of these things

technically Phish Inc. is Beth Montuori Rowles, Kevin Shapiro, Julia Mordaunt, and Ben Collette

so it’s not quite what you think
