Peoples album is so good it might be time to give them their own thread.
Also, the Trey banter after Rise at the Dayton show is as

as it gets.

Yeah I think it's about time for this, the album version of One Step Behind is so so so damn good. Was a blast jamming to them with VHG and Phil on Thursday. Other NYC heads, we gonna get you out to either of these next two shows???

I very much get what Trey's trying to communicate, but of course it comes off tone deaf because.. I dunno, he's rich and white and male?
but I had fans in like Texas who would bring me moonshine in water bottles to shows that they were going to because their kids liked the music, it was a pretty queer teen pop goth audience, and they offered to put us up a few times (we usually had to drive the night) and said "we'd love to have you over for bbq, I just don't want to offend you or make you feel uncomfortable since we hunt and have guns in the house or whatever".. meanwhile we had guns at the cabin we rehearsed at in Vermont, it wasn't a thing, but it was a sweet gesture... I later saw the patriarch's facebook and it was very "HILRY"S GONNA TAKE UR GUNNZ!!" so like...
the direct feeling of whisking around the country rapidly and connecting to people over something like music, and the shared kindness and friendship that accompanies that, especially at opener/amateur levels, like no I didn't feel uncomfortable going into Alabama or Louisiana or Idaho most of the time, and yea a great deal of that is privilege... part of it is just that the urban south and midwest are still blue/urban/diverse areas.. but part of it is scientifically measurable in that when you're meeting a wider range of individuals face to face that you legitimately have greater empathy
anyway, rambling... from his experience day to day I definitely feel what he's expressing... not denying that experience is shaped in major part by privilege though

also, cool that Trey dropped the Geneva 93 show as the sort of end of the old days scene, really... I had cousins at that show, most of them didn't see Phish again until after the reunion, so their last point of reference was like standing around talking to the guys before the shows
also also still haven't made it more than 4 minutes into a Garcia Peoples album, I feel very uncool and out of the loop... But I've been doing my own listening to, uh... FIREWORKS

well I challenged Guy directly on what felt to me like an overly strong REACTION to what I said considering he knows me well enough to know that I agree with him already, and it became a lengthy 1:1 conversation, yada yada yada, kumbaya, fight the power

but I do think it's funny that.. in essence all the Trey story time stories are ones of extreme privilege... it's mostly all partying and white boy prep school through college through rock star nonsense that he's almost entirely gotten away with scott free and that has made him quite wealthy... and we fucking eat it up... I love those stories... but the second he tries to speak to anything else about the human experience that extreme privilege gets highlighted above the actual genuine sentiment and all of a sudden he's tone deaf and it's 2019, so shut the fuck up Trey, what the hell do you know...
what's the takeaway... don't TRY? give us more of your drug tales and stories of white prep school boys with no readily visible life challenges or consequences? only try if you're going to get it 100% right, which is fucking impossible anyway? I sure as fuck don't know
