Dalton was (would have been) a fine Bond both those movies were boring disasters.

I wouldn't go that far. Moore just kind of outstayed his welcome.

I would go further, I mean Dalton shits on Moore and both his movies are great fun. I like Bond both for the things that are good and the ones that are bad, so I like Moore, in a way, and some of his movies, even Moonraker, but he has a big lead on the worst ones

to put things in perspective i have watched every moore bond more than 5 times except maybe the man with the golden gun so obv I don't mind his cheeseball take all that much but his complete inability to shoot action at all and lack of tricks outside of smirky double entendre forces the filmmakers to hit every bond checklist point perfectly to get great bond out of it, like the spy who loved me, or complete self parody like moonraker which kinda works but most people hate

ofc some of his failures were pretty interesting like lald aka bond goes extra racist

the latter is so horrible in a "these people can't possibly have made a movie before" way I'd like some arguments for it being the favorite anything

From the Skyfall thread (which isn't on here, though I'd probably put it at the top of tier 3):

Tier 1:
1. Goldfinger
2. On Her Majesty's Secret Service
3. The Spy Who Loved Me
4. From Russia With Love

Tier 2:
5. Thunderball
6. Casino Royale
7. The Living Daylights
8. GoldenEye
9. For Your Eyes Only

Tier 3:
10. License to Kill
11. Dr. No
12. Quantum of Solace

Tier 4:
13. You Only Live Twice
14. Moonraker
15. A View to a Kill
16. Live and Let Die
17. The Man With the Golden Gun

Jesus Christ Kill Me:
18. The World is Not Enough
19. Octopussy
20. Tomorrow Never Dies
21. Die Another Day
22. Diamonds Are Forever

Basically agree with that but the gap between tier 2 and tier 3 is massive

If I was gonna re-do it, I'd move Quantum down to 4, because you're right - that's a big gap, but License and Dr. No are both still mostly enjoyable.

Dr No is really weird if you only watched it last year for the first time, having seen Austin Powers multiple times before

I like Dr. No a lot.

From Russia With Love (1963)
Goldfinger (1964)
Casino Royale (2006)
GoldenEye (1995)

Dr. No (1962)
Thunderball (1965)
The Spy Who Loved Me (1977)
On Her Majesty's Secret Service (1969)

You Only Live Twice (1967)
The Living Daylights (1987)
Live and Let Die (1973)
Skyfall (2012)
For Your Eyes Only (1981)
Quantum of Solace (2008)

Diamonds Are Forever (1971)
The Man with the Golden Gun (1974)
Octopussy (1983)
Licence to Kill (1989)
Moonraker (1979)

Tomorrow Never Dies (1997)
A View to a Kill (1985)
Never Say Never Again (1983)
The World is Not Enough (1999)
Die Another Day (2002)

Basically everything below Quantum is garbage but I'll still watch any of them when they're on.
