In 2011, Cass McCombs treated the world to two albums: WIT'S END and Humor Risk. Now, he'll follow up those two with a new 22-song LP, Big Wheel and Others. It's out October 14 internationally and October 15 in the U.S. via Domino

And I feel like this year is really about, just the year of realizing stuff.
morning star is still great. glad it made this album
also the kid talking is Sean from the docs Sean and Following Sean. kinda reminds me of the HTDW guy including audio from Streetwise. I'd be okay without it though
wow just finished "The Burning of the Temple, 2012" - that was incredible. also, interesting that the album version of "Brighter!" is without Karen Black. Edit: oh okay the version w her is on disc 2.

thought i would share this here as it's kinda interesting:
back when Domino did that pretty awesome pop-up radio station in London in 2011, Kris Gillespie put together this awesome mix of McCombs rarities/B-sides/live takes for a show called "Eavesdropping On The Competition". the mix includes an earlier, pretty significantly different version of "Everything Has To Be Just So" - it seems that McCombs added all the spoken word parts for this newer version/arrangement, which I am still trying to digest. i was so amped to see that the song was going to receive an official release, because the version Gillespie plays is stunning imo. not really sure how i'm feeling about this newer version right now. i ripped the mix too a while back if anyone wants that. and here's a rip of the song by itself.

just bought tickets to see him at the echo here in LA next month
i can't imagine him having the same backlit light display that he/his band had when i last saw him at the el rey given that the echo's stage is tiny, but i'm still looking forward. still, that light installation really elevated the performance.

thanks.
this new album is pretty incredible, i cannot stop listening. maybe his best.
Liking this a lot a few listens in. Really glad I sprung for the limited vinyl with the extra 7".
A lot of it feels kinda loose and low-stakes, in a good way. "Home On the Range" is a "Harmonium"-sized epic, and I'm loving his funny Nashville Skyline voice on "Honesty Is No Excuse"
