What would it take for the NY Times to fire Bret Stephens at this point?

What media companies do you all give money to/subscribe to? It's hard to figure out whose deserving. Like I read nymag a lot, but I'm not giving money to a place that employs Jon chait and Andrew sullivan. Similar issues with dailies like nyt and Wapo.

Right now for me:
- La times trial. It's okay, but it has local to me news in a nationalish pub. Politics don't seem to be terrible. Not sure if will keep it.
- Financial times. Need something with daily econ/business content and it seems like the least terrible. Also these all have insane paywalls, so I'm inevitably going to pay for one.
- I donate to some nonprofit ones like Colorado Independent and LA Taco, but I wish there were like a really good nonprofit daily i could support. Like the new York times but not capitalist.

Pretty much just the NYT crossword at this point. I hate giving them even that but I’ve been doing them every morning for over a decade and I can’t give em up.

FT and Current Affairs for me. The New Republic was imperialist dogshit for a long time but seems to have published a lot of good stuff since kicking Leon Wieseltier to the curb.

ProPublica also does a lot of investigative work that I suspect would otherwise be completely neglected with the buyouts/shuttering/private equitization of all the local papers.

i had no idea about TNR's history tbh, i only started to get into it when i noticed a lot of writers I like publishing with them? They had an amazing cover story on boeing a few months back that sealed the deal for me... now i steal my bf's subs. :ahuh:

Been a long time since I watched it but I remember Shattered Glass being a pretty good portrayal of the Kelly/Chait End of History TNR. They mostly come off as careerist self-congratulatory assholes.
