There have been surprisingly few wet hop beers around here, but I also haven't been to the beer store lately.

Are fresh hop beers still generally speaking shitty

I remember a few that were decent but for the most part they taste like smoking wet weed while eating lawn clippings

I used to rush out and buy the Sierra Nevada ones and instantly regret it, and they were some of the better ones

i used to love founders harvest but it's been a few years since i've had it. are there any sought-after fresh hop beers these days? it doesn't seem like something the trendy breweries really care about.

oh yeah, born yesterday is a great one. the big, national craft breweries must get the majority of the wet hop allocation, i never see local breweries doing them.

Outside of the PNW I don't think most breweries can afford the shipping speed required to get the most out of wet hops. They're also a big gamble in terms of quality and bittering (which is why they're almost exclusively used for whirlpool).

Not necessarily but they have a distinctive flavor profile that definitely doesn't work for everyone.

Had it, it's good (not as good as the Ayinger I had alongside, but also a helluva lot cheaper).

They didn’t do any collaboration this year because of Covid. It’s very meh imo

I’m enjoying a Hamms due to this threads recommendation of macro beers. It’s a deal for it’s price.

Is lagunitas going to release Born Again this year?

I think a wet hop beer done well is really good. But yeah, it is definitely a pacific northwest thing. I usually visit my family around the end of the summer / early fall (my Dad's birthday is early September) and there tends to be a lot of available around then.

Is Weihenstephaner festbier technically a marzen? They use a pale malt and it comes off as a boozy pils with more body. I love it, probably my favorite Octoberfest, but it's unique in my experience.

idk jalepeno ranch, the return of abaddon (wayfinder helles lager colab), west coast ipa colab with green cheek, and fresh hop ipa colab with pueblo vida would have me more likely to order from Modern Times than HPB at the moment

Yeah, this month’s release email made me sigh. I’ve already spent way too much on beer this week with my North Park order coming in tomorrow, but there are like four beers I want along with those Beastmaster cans I missed out on.
