I found a couple of Maine Brewing bottles (Peeper pale ale and Another One IPA) at Whole Foods and gave them a shot, they are both so crisp and crushable and pure. Made me realize that I'm a bit tired of all the super flavorful robust hazy nonsense.
HPB is very good at this also

And lol that brut is the other fad. So do you want mediocre muddled hazys or overly dry brut

This beer is underrated and I can't believe I didn't start drinking it until this year. I've been into their amber ale as an easy drinker too. Such a classic.
It's a shame they haven't put out a memorable new beer in a long time. They badly need a new pale ale, among other things.

I would take a decent hazy over a brut any day, I have yet to try a brut IPA that I found remotely appealing. I still love a good hazy

Man I love pizza port bacon and eggs. So coffee forward and in a way that isn’t just your usual chocolatey coffee dark roast way. So good even from the can

love that beer, need to remember to pick up cans
went to hpb with friends for griffiths last night, tried and ranked:
jamaica blue (perfect, unexpected coffee complexity)
coconut and chili (three times as spicy as last year but coconut holds its own, great for sharing)
colonel griffith (nice balance, not 'pastry' even with more body and vanilla)
wash-prosessed ethiopian (boldest coffee flavor of all of em)
griffith park (modern times collab bba blend, balanced but forgettable)
chocolate, coconut and cinnamon (big on coconut and light on cinnamon, okay)
bba batch 3 (big bourbon hit but thinned out unfortunately)

Lagunitas IPA has arrived in 19.2 oz. cans, only $2 at my local bottle shop.
The pop top on the can features a die cut of their red blotch ‘Sucks’ logo!

Jealous.
I'm still sitting on my Griffith from last year (reg. + coco-chili).

Yeah, all of their cans have that die cut. It's pretty rad.

I had it when it was 4.4% or whatever. It's solid.

the 4.0% abv version is not going to be for everyone, but personally i really like it. it tastes like hop flavored sparkling water, virtually no malt presence.

I don’t know if I got a fresher batch this year or what, but Nugget Nectar is everything I want it to be right now. Maybe I just missed crisp, hoppy beer with an actual malt presence. Either way, it’s good and I will keep buying it every winter until I wise up and quit drinking.

Speaking of hoppy beers of yesteryear, I picked up the new Hop Wallop today. Gonna try it later

Hop Wallop still sucks. Just stupidly bitter and that's it. Don't miss beers like that.

fuk i would love some fresh nugget nectar. gonna seek some out this weekend.
ha, viola swamp, i happened to be at HPB last week and did some griffiths. i only had jamaica blue (fantastic) and colonel griffith. they were both ruling. coconut chili sold out before i got up but the bartender said he liked colonel better.
hpb is such a great spot/brewery. i didn't really have any other beers of note in LA (but wasn't really searching tbh)

yeah they're the best spot overall. my other destinations are in heart of downtown (modern times and mikkeller)
you had the two best griffiths, it'd be hard to put away a coconut chili solo tbh

We'll be in Southern California (LA and San Diego) next month and are planning on doing as much beer drinking as possible.
I don't pay attention to the beer scene anymore and I was wondering if you guys had any thoughts about any of these places? I basically compiled this list from the Beer Advocate forums.
Obviously we can't do all of these, so I was wondering if any are must dos, or must avoids.
Downtown LA
Mumford Brewing
Modern Times Dankness Dojo
Highland Park Brewing
Anaheim/Orange County
Bottle Logic
Bruery Terreux
Bruery
Noble Ale Works
Unsung
Green Cheek Beer Company

Smog City
Yorkshire Square
Long Beach
Beachwood

not a brewery, but i’d definitely recommend hitting up toronado in san diego. there’s a small modern times taproom nearby too, along with some other chill bars

I am glad to hear toronado's good...I actually picked our hotel because it was close.
