drinking the southern star right now. haven't tried the other two. the gf wanted something hoppy and i haven't had it in a while so i picked some up. worth it just for the aroma alone, smells like grapefruit. and it's brewed locally so that's always a plus in my book. really interested in the other two brews. don't know if i'll get to them tonight...

Finally got some of this last night. It was good but I wasn't blown away, kind of disappointed since it was almost $10 a bottle.

Just saw that there's some on ebay for $25/bottle + $9 shipping. Dang.

did you drink it straight up or against food? it works really well against turkey... anyway, good stuff

http://hoosierbeergeek.blogspot.com/200 ... table.html

if you get boulevard where you're at, their brett saison is pretty nice as well - maybe not as funky as you'd expect a brett beer to be, but i'd imagine that it'll get weird the older it gets. and saison dupont is pretty much the standard, and maybe a little cheaper than the bruery stuff.

and if you knew all that already then i'm sorry if i came across as a know it all.

Did it straight.

I have a bottle of the brett saison at home...haven't tried it yet. So far the Smokestack series hasn't blown my hair back.

Saison Dupont is my gold standard, as far as saison's go. Priced right too.

i've had a couple of these since i moved, and you're absolutely correct, tasty, cheap, and gets the job done.

worth mentioning they're contract brewed by unibroue

I got a bottle of this last night, and a sixer of their Stockyard Oatmeal Stout, which is made by Goose Island, so I'm wondering how similar it is to their own Oatmeal Stout.

i almost bought some of that oatmeal stout the other night. picked up the vintage ale, though. the dude at the register told me that i should stock up if i liked it and let it age a couple years, and that they aren't going to be getting any more shipments of it.
i did get some of that JB Winterfest, and damn, for 5 bucks a sixer it was much better than i expected. just really smooth for a 7.5% brew.

really? the imperial stout is one of the best i've ever had and the brett saison isn't far behind.

The Stockyard Oatmeal Stout is, I think, the worst stout I have ever purchased: thin, watery, and coffee/cocoa-flavored with all the authenticity and subtlety of, say, a Cherry Coke.

I mean, I wasn't expecting the BCS at $5/six, but still...

Going back to school has really hampered my expensive beer habit.

But I am drinking some Old Speckled Hen right now; it's been a while. Obviously nothing amazing, but it's always welcome and incredibly drinkable.

So i got real lucky at my local today and snagged a couple sixers of real rare Short's brew company sixers. Like, I basically got 1/4 of all that store's stock for the year.

Short's Brew - Kind Ale , Its not even on their website (that i can see). I guess its an a super hopped wet hop ale. **edit wow thsi stuff smells like I'm in some underground bunker where all the best hops are kept** NO WAY

Short's Brew - Uncle Steve's Irish Stout
