getting rid of my dedicated beer cellaring fridge was a great decision for me. i used to have way too many beers and now i have a half dozen saisons and lambics in the back of the fridge and then I just buy small amounts of things that i want to drink immediatly.

you would not believe some of the absolute shit beers i dumped recently

Anybody gone back and looked at the first page of this thread, from 11 years ago?

By Page 2 you already have someone saying it’s weird to see strangers post pictures of poured beers and someone else saying that calling Two Hearted almost “too hoppy” is a bannable offense.

It’s like looking at archives of the BA top 100 or something. Crazy how quickly tastes shift in Beer Dorkdom.

Many things about aging give you the rip van winkle feeling but hobbies/habits/enthusiasm really are bizarre over time

Started buying craft beer underage in Indiana in 2000 and watched the city of 250k I grew up in go from “gotta go to the nearby town for an ipa” to regional craft brewing hotspot. The can revolution, microbreweries going crazy profligate and seeming like they’d keep growing endlessly, and now people going insane for the super-fruited Berliner weisses.

Unfortunate my liver exploded in like 2009 so I’ve been watching from the sidelines

Do tell

I’ve dragged my “cellar” with me through like 7 moves, knowing they’d all be about undrinkable but unable to let them go. I bet some of those Russian River sours from like 2008 are still good though. Bigfoot verticals are still legit. Wonder what the 2006 Darklord tastes like

Ok I just read the first page and honestly I’m more knowledgeable about that era than this current one

I basically Seinfeld.gif’d when people were starting to collectively realize Stone was not a good brewery

When I first started drinking beer, Blue Moon was considered fancy for everybody in my hometown.

I discovered Bourbon County around 2005 and it was always available on the shelves because nobody else wanted to spend $4.50 on a 12oz bottle of beer.

Look at me now, ma!

Daaaammmn, hadn’t thought about that in ages, but circa 2004-2005, I had the exact same opinion but also liked it most if I had an orange slice with it.

Great notion opened up for pick up at their new location here in Seattle. It’ll be a nice spot hang out at when they actually open. The app based purchasing for cans is dope.

They are rarely good but when they're good... Carton / Other Half collab, All Orange Everything 10.5% immediately comes to mind. No bite whatsoever.

Every brewery, especially Modern Times, seems to be making their IPAs so insanely sweet lately even compared to how they were a year ago. I feel bad for barely supporting MT during the pandemic but I can get beers shipped directly to me easier than I can get to the Dojo and last time I spent like $200 and the only beer I actually liked was Modem Tones.

I picked up Foeder Ice, Makin' Time (dry hopped pilsner with cellermaker), and How's Your Day (west coast ipa with HPB) from Modern Times a few months ago and really enjoyed all three. I think MT does lagered beer and clear hoppy beer quite well.

How's Your Day is great.

For lagers it's just so much easier for me to get HPB delivered with my Bottle Friends discount than it is for me to follow MT's weird scheduling for special releases. I've had multiple issues of orders not being in stock for pick up when I arrive at my appointment, so I'm forced to repeat the same process all over again. If i had a car it wouldn't be nearly as much of an issue. It's also frustrating that they offer delivery but it doesn't include monthly releases.

Nothing against them but I can get stuff shipped from NorCal easier and quicker than a brewery that's five miles away.

On that note, I'm pretty excited about Cellarmaker's Vastness of Space case arriving tomorrow. Looking forward to the Vanilla Latte VoS.

edit: the new MT Chaos Grid cans sound good as hell though

This incredibly bomb imperial dessert stout was summoned forth via the confluence of Monsters’ Park, Modem Tones, Beastmaster, and Suggestion of Mass—all bourbon barrel-aged, and all crazy delicious. Once their powers had been combined, we infused the whole affair with vanilla, cacao nibs, almonds, and roasted salted peanuts. It’s a liquid candy bar that will gently (yet firmly) catapult you into the stratosphere of decadence.
