The Development team made one crucial error. They entered into the game an automatic sentry gun called a "Puckle."

i missed this on the miyazaki thing tho https://ew.com/movies/studio-ghibli-hay ... -you-live/
"We are still hand-drawing everything, but it takes us more time to complete a film because we're drawing more frames," he noted. "So, there are more drawings to draw than before. Back when we were making [1988's] My Neighbor Totoro, we only had eight animators. Totoro we made in eight months. [For] the current film that Hayao Miyazaki is working on, we have 60 animators, but we are only able to come up with one minute of animation in a month. That means 12 months a year, you get 12 minutes worth of movie. Actually, we've been working on this film for three years, so that means we have 36 minutes completed so far. We're hoping it will finish in the next three years."

The Wind Rises is my favourite and the best, but I wouldn't ever recommend it to anybody who hasn't seen like five other Ghibli films first.

Spirited Away is the first one anyone should watch. Porco Rosso is the best "minor" film. Mononoke I need to watch again because my first viewing was with that stinky Neil Gaiman script and Claire Danes doing a pretty lousy voice acting... I gotta watch it subtitled I think.

Whisper of the Heart is such a humanist masterpiece

Porco Rosso is the movie I'm most excited to rewatch

I've been obsessed with the "Dream Songs" compilation of Joe Hisaishi soundtrack compositions. It has all of his best Studio Ghibli stuff and, crucially, his incredible work with Takeshi Kitano.

as of rn i think my top 5 would be something like

spirited away
kiki
howls
totoro
castle of cogliostro

idk how basic/controversial that is within the ghibli fandom
I look at bluegrass music as this sort of glowing ball. The point is to relax the technique around the glowing ball of feeling.

this is extremely difficult

spirited away
Howls
Wind rises
mononoke
Totoro

Though depending on how I’m feeling I could sub in any of these
porco/whisper of the heart/kaguya

the wind rises seems more like the one you have to watch at the end, since it kinda encapsulates the whole career imo

i actually didn't LOVE porco on my first viewing with subs, but liked it a lot more on rewatch with the dub, so that could have just been a mindframe thing but i love keaton so i'm sure some of it is just preferring it that way too

maybe

pom poko is definitely the most underrated

Now might be:
1: Mononoke
2: Pom Poko
3: Nausicaa
4: Kaguya
5: Spirited Away / Porco Rosso
at the same time, when i first heard this song in the 4th grade, i couldn't stop thinking of death and the release of the human soul from the body....flying through the air and darkness!!!...
