takahachi on ave a is the best cheap sushi in manhattan in my opinion. kanoyama (not their omakase which is awesome but not cheap), hasaki on 9th street...or takahachi in tribeca are all one step higher in terms of price and some of these may take reservations...i forget.

ushiwakamaru on 23rd used to be a favorite but their prices have risen too high for me...maybe $50-75/pp.

my secret is sushi yasuda on 43rd street allows you to order a la carte from the sushi bar. so conceivably, you can have a relatively inexpensive omakase for $60-75/pp instead of $150+.

A few years ago a friend and I would often go to those sushi places on Manhattan Ave in Greenpoint and order a sushi boat. They ply you with terrible hot sake for free the entire time.
