Getting old sucks. I don't know anything cool anymore. I don't even know any relevant bands or venues anymore.

worse is thinking the shows you get tickets to will sell out instantly...yet theyre unsold months later.

no idea why people are sleeping on vanishing twin at berlin in april...or murder capital in march.

sultan room quietly is getting better shows.

This is probably super annoying, but I'm taking a family member who has never been in nyc to nyc this weekend, mahattan one day, brooklyn the next. She's pregnant, so I'm not looking for late night spots or whatever, but can anyone recommend the one thing you would feel you must see or eat in brooklyn?

you know the things i would recommend normally are better not when it's so fucking cold out like it's going to be this weekend.

southwest corner of prospect park with peppa's jerk chicken and maybe beef patties/desserts from jamaican pride bakery across the street both on flatbush south of parkside by Q train

hero from lassen and hennings on montague street, also great baked goods, eat on promenade and take in the view. bonus points for sunset.

but you don't want to do either of those things especially with a pregnant woman

where in brooklyn were you planning to be? i'm sure you will get a lot of great recommendations soon

you could always go to yemen cafe on atlantic ave if you guys want to eat some lamb and lamb broth and unlimited homemade bread and tea

considering we had a baby 18 months ago, i highly recommend you skip yemeni food.

maybe brunch at untitled (nice room) or cookshop (semi decent scene) followed by chelsea gallery crawl on sat (or whitney museum)?

you should 100% take your family member to poppy's in cobble hill in the morning for coffee and/or pastries. maybe they also serve breakfast. poppy's is great, really reflects the more innocent nature of cobble/boerum hill

and then after poppy's you could walk to the old italian neigbhorhood in carroll gardens

Sunset Park dim sum would be an experience on top of a meal. Bamonte’s for the same reason. And, as alluded to above, all the Caribbean on Fulton St/Crown Heights would be good if walking can be part of the plan.

not sure that the bamontes experience is enough to justify the shitty food, especially if you aren’t drinking. Maybe pizza at one of the usual suspects (Roberta’s, Paulie gees, Lucali, ops) for dinner? Speedy Romeo is also not too far from where you’re staying and probably less of a wait than the others.

Depending on what stage (morning sickness isn’t confined to the morning so that can suck but it usually chills out after the first trimester) and how pregnant she is she might not be down for a lot of walking or standing

Thank you all, really cool suggestions. She can definitely get around and stuff, I think it's fairly early still. We are surprsing her with the trip and she's gonna be hype about it! I definitely think we are gonna try to do one of those pizza spots and poppy sounds amazing... I would LOVE to do the dim sum thing, but she and her husband , while great people, aren't super adventurous eaters typically.
I will say that my fiance and I really wanna do a week in NYC this summer, because I'm always doing like one or two nights at most, and I'm keeping all these suggestions in mind!

Thanks again!

james has been around for ages. one of the first restaurants that park slopers would cross flatbush for in the 2000s.

ive never been. pretty amazing its still there considering the change in the area.
